It’s super cold out right now, but a part of me really wishes it were warm enough for camping. I’d bring along these amazing new remixes of Portugal. the Man’s Live In The Moment, which is yet another superb tune off the Grammy winning psych rockers’ album Woodstock. Fellow Grammy winner Tycho, or San Francisco’s own celebrated producer and musician, Scott Hansen, has created two gorgeous edits of the tune, one a “Sunrise Remix”, which you can stream above, and the other a “Sunset Remix”, which you can find below. The sunrise remix is an ambient electronic meets post-rock rendition that oscillates and flows with bright eyed energy. No need for coffee when you have this fresh and dewy track to wake up to and remind you of the pristine beauty of the world. Tycho’s Sunset Remix, as you might guess, is more demure and tempered. Its chillwavey varnish is perfect for watching the sun tuck itself below the horizon. Nightfall creeps around the bend as we settle in to

reflect on the day’s passing and watch the embers glow in a crackling campfire. Tycho’s introspective Sunset Remix leads us into the dark, where we find ourselves looking forward once again to dropping on his Sunrise Remix at dawn. Who else, but Tycho could create such thoughtful and profound remixes, all the while still showcasing Portugal. The Man’s ever infectious original? Catch Tycho on tour this spring, details and ticket availability can be found, here.

There’s no better way to start off the day than a brand new video from San Francisco’s own Tycho. The dreamy ethereal visualizer was crafted for Glider, one of many transcendental chillwave and ambient electronic songs off the musician’s Grammy nominated album Epoch. The video is an homage to visionary Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky. Scott Hansen incorporated elements of his 1972 film Solaris into its visuals. The treat arrives just as Tycho is about to kick off their European tour in Dublin on Thursday. Glider is available via iTunes, here. Find out more about Tycho’s tour, here.

The unexpected mid-week delights continue to roll in as San Francisco’s own Tycho unleashes a beautiful remix of Maggie Rogers’ breakout hit, Alaska. Grammy nominated musician and producer Scott Hansen takes full advantage of Alaska’s lush consistency on his ethereal ambling, gently trickling electronic transformation. Tycho’s Alaska is a magical adventure that takes us past babbling creeks, through misty enchanted forests, and across foggy peaks.

San Francisco’s very own Grammy nominated producer and musician Tycho has unveiled a brand new song. That in itself is massive news any day of the year, but this is also Tycho’s first ever release with vocals. See, as all you Tycho fans out there know, is an instrumental track off of the Scott Hansen’s acclaimed 2014 album AWAKE. You should also recall that acclaimed New York electronic project Beacon gave that track a gorgeously effervescent remix. He infused the ambient beauty of the song with a resilient dance groove and gossamer vocals. Tycho’s Hansen and Beacon’s Mullarney teamed up on stage in 2017 for stellar live renditions of See, and now the fruit of that union has been officially recorded and released as a proper collaboration. Tycho’s See, featuring Beacon, takes us on a dreamy serene, deeply meditative sojourn that ends with resounding, dance inducing catharsis. I feel as if I’d be happy for this journey of self discovery to last forever. You can grab the breathtaking track from Ghostly International, here.

Though I’ve only been to Burning Man once so far in my life, I’ve been meaning to go back. One of the more enticing reasons to do is Tycho’s famed sunrise sets at the week long event. I imagine these sets to be near spiritual experiences. It must be magical watching the magnificent disk of a golden sun rising slowly above the dusty playa while listening to the beloved San Francisco producer and musician’s ambient electronica. Let’s pretend for a moment that we are there right now as we let Scott Hansen take our imaginations for a spectacular journey with his new song, Epoch, which truly does seem to span time itself. We find ourselves caught in deep, dreamy introspection as Epoch flutters and glides coolly and weightlessly, a perfect balance between electronic and organic elements. After baking in the Indian summer sun just now while getting some outdoors exercise, there’s nothing better to come home to than this beautiful song. Epoch is reported to be a keystone off Tycho’s forthcoming album, one which he describes as at once a departure and an evolution.

I’m starting today out with a remix, but not just any remix, this is a spectacular track that brings together Tycho and Death Cab For Cutie. Yes, you read that right, Tycho and Death Cab For Cutie. San Francisco producer Scott Hansen has created his own rendition of stand out Kintsugi track The Ghosts Of Beverly Drive, one of my favorites off that excellent album. Apparently, Tycho and Death Cab For Cutie make one heckuva treat. The Ghosts Of Beverly Drive’s pensiveness and synthier elements meld with Tycho’s ruminative style of ambient electronica seamlessly. This is a real beauty, that has me floating in bliss. Tycho, as always, just played some sets at Burning Man. I’m sad I once again missed hitting the Playa this year, but Tycho’s offered up a recording of his sunrise set for us to enjoy on Soundcloud.

Brooklyn duo Break Science absolutely KILL it on this amazing track, Vibe Walk, a mind blowing mashup that blends Kendrick Lamar and Tycho. Kendrick Lamar and Tycho! Who’d have thought??? The track, which premiered a few days ago on This Song Is Sick, is an incredible blend of hip hop, soul, electronic, and chilled out downtempo. There’s plenty of vibe to go around here, no one can kill THIS vibe. I had to pick my jaw off the ground when I first heard Vibe Walk.

Tycho – Spectre

February 21, 2014

San Francisco genius producer Tycho, aka Scott Hansen, aka ISO50, is poised to drop his new album Awake on March 18. It’s one I’m greatly looking forward to. We’ve heard some brilliant instrumental tracks off the album already, but now, get carried away by album track Spectre. The cinematic track takes you on quite the journey, as Hansen tends to do with his music. Amazeballs. Sigh.
