A new acoustic video from Swedish artist Clara Mae has keyed us into her recent single, whose official video has broken out with well over half a million streams on YouTube. You can view the gorgeous acoustic video for the stringy, stripped down version of I’m Not Her below, but let’s turn our attention to the sugar coated electro pop original above. Steely throbbing electronica and vivacious beats intertwine with Clara Mae’s honeyed, kittenish voice on this immediately infectious gem. We’ve shared many an electronic bop with Clara Mae on guest vocals, but I’m Not Her more than proves her draw as a soloist. I’m Not Her is out now on Big Beat, stream/purchase, here.

Lately, I’ve been wondering a lot about Kate Boy, the dark electronic pop project involving members from both Australia and Sweden who’ve been entrancing us with their glacial electronica and edgy pop for many a year both live and through their riveting recordings. Their glowering, frigid sound and pulsing beats are very much right up my alley, and I’ve been missing them dearly. Though they made a welcome and unexpected appearance on Slow Magic’s Mind earlier this year, Kate Boy has been MIA for a very long time. This month, they’ve finally dashed back onto the scene with True Colours, which comes with abstract visuals that match the song’s chromatic allusion and shadowy scenery. Kate Boy ventures deeper into experimental waters with the eccentric release, reminding us of Kill J, The Knife, and Björk with their sinuous winding, serpentine clattering composition. True Colours is a dance of light and shadow, a wondrous and fantastical sonic embrace to welcome us back into Kate Boy’s magnificent world. Stream/purchase the single, here.

I just can’t resist dark glacial electronic pop, especially when it’s as intensely cinematic and grandly rousing as this song, Gone, from Sweden’s ionnalee. The artist is also known for her role in iamamiwhoami. As ionnalee, she bewitches us with an avant-garde form of electropop that evokes the likes of Kill J, Fever Ray, and The Knife. A clattering array of percussive elements keep us on our toes as we march alongside the song’s regal drum beats and ride on the plumed beauty of ionnalee’s pneumatic voice. The single comes with news of ionnalee’s first full length album, expected to arrive early next year. The release will explore our generation’s fear of oblivion. You can pre-order Afraid To Be Forgotten ahead of its release on February 16th, here.

Sigrid is without a doubt one of my favorite new artists this year, and she just released her debut EP, named after that infectiously punchy debut Don’t Kill My Vibe. Fake Friends is one of the four tracks off the Swedish pop sensation’s EP, and it’s nothing short of pop perfection, just like everything else we’ve heard from Sigrid. Its soaring magnificence and Sigrid’s crisp immaculate voice command our full attention. Also on the record is a beautiful acoustic track entitled Dynamite, which you can hear via a stunning video below. I’ve already watched it at least a dozen times. Sigrid’s vocals are sensational on the stripped down piano ballad. They remind me of a cross between Christine and the Queen and Adele. Debut EP Don’t Kill My Vibe can be streamed in full on Soundcloud, here. You can also stream the EP or purchase via alternate sources, here. Sigrid’s a star in the making, and we’re lucky to have her around.

Mysterious newcomer SIRÉN arises out of Scandinavia to cast a magical spell on us with her debut, Hold Me. The glacial pop with which she envelops us in is cool and crisp, crystalline and elegant. It evokes the very Nordic woodlands she’s appeared out of, where as they say, the winters are cold and the nights long and dark. Hold Me is a halcyon yet tenacious aria with the grandeur of Vaults, the icy enchantment of Aurora, and the sultriness of Banks or Vérité. Hold Me is out now via Jejune. You can also stream the track via Soundcloud below.

OFFICIAL VID: Oh Land – Cherry On Top

For those that consider yourself fans of talented Danish musician Oh Land, you likely know that the versatile artist was once a professional dancer who had to switch career focus after suffering an injury. Of course, Oh Land is so amazing that she then went on to create and perform insanely beautiful Scandinavian indie pop music. You can see some of those dancing skills in her wonderful new video for Cherry On Top, which is one of the best tracks off her album Wish Bone from earlier this year. It’s a weightless, delicate electronic pop treat paired with a charming, moving video.
