Chasing Shadows is a boldly booming, dashingly flashy new song from Santigold, a must listen from the electronic pop artist’s upcoming album 99¢. Those shadows are quite fleeting on the glowing web of a track full of sharp hooks and brisk, playful vocals. Santigold also released an exclusive video on Tidal for the song produced by none other than Vampire Weekend’s ever busy Rostam Batmanglij. Head over here to watch it.

99¢ is due out February 26th.

I’m very much a fan of Brooklyn based Australian and Irish duo Tamper and their turbulently brooding and dramatic blend of indie rock and electronic. I’ve also been fortunately privy to the knowledge that Tamper has some delicious cover treats for us to reveal over the rest of this summer. They’re all very spectacular renditions of songs I already love. Tamper’s first reveal is a Santigold cover, a darkly moody re-imagining of her song Disparate Youth. Disparate Youth happens to be my favorite track off Santigold’s 2012 album Master Of My Make Believe, and Tamper does a phenomenal job making the song all their own. Tamper’s Disparate Youth gloomily drones with a mournful, pensive march. Watch the duo’s video for the cover below, too. Stay tuned for more incredible covers from Tamper.

Santigold – Radio

July 1, 2015

Despite already enjoying some fantastic music off of the soundtrack for coming of age film Paper Towns, I haven’t exactly paid close attention to what the track listing is for the album. Turns out, there’s a brand new Santigold tune on the soundtrack, and it’s fire. Radio is a loud and bombastic treat, a pounding, fiery thrillseeker that quickly reminds me why Santi White seriously rules. Radio is a pleasant surprise as it’s been a long time since we’ve had any new Santigold. It’s reported that she’s working on a third album right now for later this year.

OFFICIAL VID: Vampire Weekend – Diane Young

June 3, 2013

In one of the more epic video releases of late, Vampire Weekend recreated the scene of The Last Supper with a long list of surprise cameos by other indie artists for their popular single Diane Young off their latest album. Modern Vampires Of The City is one of my top 5 albums of these past couple months. I’ve had it on repeat a lot. It’s not as brilliant as Daft Punk’s RAM or as emotionally charged as The National’s Trouble Will Find Me, but I love so many of the tracks off the release and VW’s lyrics are incomparably confusingly weighty and playful. Diane Young is probably one of the most rambunctious tunes off the album. So, who do you recognize in this who’s who of music videos? Let’s see… there’s Chromeo, Sky Ferreira, Santigold, Dave Longstreth (Dirty Projectors), Hamilton Lethause (The Walkmen)… Anyone else I missed? There’s also some very creative use of a saxophone. I get the feeling there’s something going on here that I haven’t quite caught on to yet, with the balaclava and all. A cryptic video to go with cryptic lyrics.

OFFICIAL VID: Elliphant – Live Till I Die

February 18, 2013

Live Till I Die is the latest single and video from Swedish pop act Elliphant. She first caught my attention with her great song Down On Life and her sound, easily a mix of Niki & The Dove, Santigold, M.I.A., and many others. Now that more of the world has caught on to her, she’s slated to go on tour with Twin Shadow. I eagerly look forward to her touring her way over here. Live Till I Die is a far less frenetic synthpop track. It’s a pleasant listen and as the video also seems to portray, there’s a layer of throwback feel to the track. Elliphant’s sure to gain more fans and followers as 2013 progresses.

Kicking it up a notch beats wise with another remix, this time the En Björnen Microtrap Remix of Swedish act Elliphant’s Ciant Hear It. It’s a sick trap reworking that makes Elliphant even more Santigold and M.I.A. like. I’m pretty fond of Elliphant’s sound (sometimes very Niki and the Dove like), so any new approach is more than welcome. The more spacious sounding original electropop track below.

It’s a great track, but Down On Life is still my favorite Elliphant track so far.

OFFICIAL VID: Santigold – Girls

Sweet! Santigold released a video for her song Girls, her contribution to the epic soundtrack for the HBO show of the same name. I already liked the bouncy song a ton, but add in a fun, hip video directed by Weird Days and it takes it even further.
