XL Recordings is on my all time favorite labels short list, thanks to the immense roster of talent they’ve dazzled us with over the years. In case you didn’t know, XL’s label head Richard Russell has his own musical project, too, named Everything Is Recorded. He’s already released a debut EP already, and its title track has received a music video treatment. Close But Not Quite is a classy soulful minimalist electronic piece featuring vocals by British electronic soul artist Sampha. It’s a sparkling, glimmering gem and its video takes us on a journey with Sampha through the creation of the song. You can stream/download Everything Is Recorded’s Close But Not Quite EP, here.

Earlier today, the great Sampha surprised us with a brand new treat, and it certainly had the music heads on my social feeds abuzz with praise. The British electronic and soul artist stops time with stark ballad (No One Knows Me) Like The Piano. This is an undressed ballad on which everything is exposed, be it its mournful tinkling piano or Sampha’s impeccable satin voice. (No One Knows Me) Like The Piano is the definition of perfection, a profound channeling of the heart. The song is out as a single on all major services, here. It will also be found on Sampha’s highly anticipated debut album Process, due out February 3rd and available for pre-ordering, here.

Bullion’s Loop The Loop is a trippy listen. There’s no denying that. It boasts infinite layers of electronic elements that bleep and bloop, pop and flare, pushing the very boundaries of unconventional, experimental electronic pop music. Loop The Loop features vocals and keys by much respected SBTRKT collaborator and solo artist Sampha, whose velveteen voice is the perfect pairing on the synthy pop tune. The London based producer’s soundscape wobbles and warbles with a wonkiness much reminiscent of Metronomy, but this is a far more heady Metronomy, as if on a hefty dose of psychedelics, with a sprinkling of Devo snappiness. Loop The Loop is the title track from Bullion’s debut album, out February 26th on DEEK.

Abruptly after touring with Wiz Khalifa and Fall Out Boy, Hoodie Allen hopped into the studio and he’s been working non-stop since. The New York based hip hop artist is ready to reveal some of that music now, and he begins by regaling us with a hip hop and R&B jam named Let It All Work Out. The soulful yet gritty track is delivered with finesse. Hoodie Allen adeptly samples Sampha’s Indecision for the song, and the track’s slick vocals and snazzy soundscape are a perfect complement to Hoodie Allen’s magnetic rapping. Download Let It All Work Out for free, here, and keep your eyes peeled for Hoodie Allen’s next mixtape.

The first time I heard this incredible song, it was much in thanks to a recommendation by the always amazing Jessie Ware, who recommended producer Emily Haynies’ A Kiss Goodbye on Facebook. A Kiss Goodbye is a behemoth tune that features an insane roster of guests, including Charlotte Gainsbourg, Dev Hynes, and Sampha. Listen to the original above. Today, a re-worked rendition has been revealed, and its quite the gut wrenching, soulful listen, with minimalist production and poignant sentiment. Stream below. The edited version will be on a new 12", out January 20th, that includes several songs off Emily Haynie’s forthcoming debut album.

It’s with much pleasure that I premiere a remix that will envelope you from head to toe with breezy, summery warmth and balmy, tropics tinged sunshine, a perfect state to find yourself in as the weekend commences, especially here in California where we’re having a some higher than normal temperatures for this time of year. New York based producer Lucian imbues Chris Brown’s Wall To Wall with plenty of that sunkissed vibe and a dreamy, blissful atmosphere. Despite that dreaminess, there’s plenty of upbeat energy on the track. The lively funky beats and Brown’s vocals are so infectious and irresistible that every time I listen in on this remix, I find myself compulsively bouncing along and tapping my feet at my desk. If you’re feigning for more of Lucian’s mixing, check out his dope remix of Sampha’s Happens below, a super chic and resplendent rendition that’s undeniably divine.

This is one of those super collaboration tunes. You know, one of those tracks crafted with so many talents in the kitchen, it oftentimes becomes way too conflicted and fragmented? Well, not this one. This one is gorgeous. New York hip hop and pop producer Emile Haynie created the brilliant, haunting A Kiss Goodbye. Then, he enlisted Charlotte Gainsbourg, Blood Orange (Dev Hynes), and Sampha on board. Yep. All of these amazing artists, on one beautiful, moving song.  A Kiss Goodbye is an impassioned, incredible listen, with plenty of intricate nuances. I’d have to say Sampha’s part in it is my favorite… those silken vocals, the delicate piano… Wow. The whole song is breathtaking. Just listen.

One of the most delightful pieces of news I woke up to today is this: SBTRKT and SAMPHA, back together! That’s right, Aarone Jerome teamed back up with the velvety smooth vocals of Sampha to give us more stunning music, and Temporary View does not disappoint at all, not by a mile! It’s a delicious mid-tempo jam, featuring SBTRKT’s always captivating production and such heavenly, sweet vocals. If a formula works wonders, it’s a good idea to go back to it. SBTRKT is currently developing a new album. Whether this new tune will be on it, we’ve yet to see, but I’m guessing it will.
