It’s obvious bubbly infectious pastel pop is Sälen’s forte. The East London trio reeled us in with effervescent singles like Diseasey and So Rude this past year, and now they’re preparing to release a short film named Zebedy Cult and its accompanying soundtrack EP come November 10th on Island Records. This intriguing news comes with a brand new song named I Am Champagne as well as a reworked version of their acclaimed debut I’m In Love With My Best Friend. I Am Champagne is an airy swirling charmer that reminds me of a more delicate and lissome version of PC Music’s repertoire, mixed with the saccharine coating of Kero Kero Bonito. Despite its sugary appeal, I Am Champagne packs plenteous bittersweet wistfulness in its crystalline drapes. You can stream Sälen‘s new re-worked version of I’m In Love With My Best Friend below.

They explain of their new film and music project: "Zebedy’s Cult is about a flamboyant agony uncle called Zebedy… He is on call like a drug dealer, to give advice from his rickshaw. The soundtrack deals with unrequited love and addresses the promiscuity of women in a way society sadly does not. Lite Behaviour is our homage to the girls who carry condoms with them always, whilst Sweet Toothache is about sucking off an ice cream man. We wanted to re-release a more polished I’m In Love With My Best Friend as the original was recorded in Simon’s bedroom when Ellie wasn’t fully aware of her voice yet. I Am Champagne is one that parents can get behind with its message that you don’t need champagne and cocaine to have fun.“

I still can’t get Sälen’s Diseasey out of my mind, not that I’m really trying, either. The East London trio’s bubbly infectious electro pop is so addicting, particularly because its both sweetly candied and darkly twisted. Sälen returns with more of that cheekiness on effervescent new single So Rude, a whimsical dalliance involving elements both acoustic and electric. The playful charmer is out now via Island Records. Re-visit Diseasey and other fine treats at the trio’s Soundcloud, here.

While it’s hard to top how deeply infectious Sälen’s Diseasey still is months after it’s arrival, the East London trio continues to dish out whimsical and creative pop in the form of Copper Kiss. The glittery tune is ever playful with a cheeky bite, like a sweet delicious poisoned apple. I chomp deep into this enchanting fruit without pause, as if I were Snow White herself. Sälen again exhibits a flawless grip on blending dark twisted lyrics with candy coated, punchy electropop on their new peppy tune. Re-visit the trio’s prior songs on Soundcloud.

I don’t know about you, but I still can’t get over East London trio Sälen’s wispy enchanting electronic pop song Diseasey. They follow that candy coated gem up with another finespun slice of crisp electropop and honeyed R&B named The Drwg. The soft blushing, smooth gliding slow groover is as addictive as the very drug called love that Sälen coos about sensually. In case you forgot how charming and whimsically playful dark yet ethereal Diseasey is, re-visit the gem below.

Though it’s been a couple months since elusive East London trio Sälen revealed their enchanting tune Diseasey, I still can’t get enough of the gem. Let’s re-visit the wispy electropop treat via its brand new music video, in case you’re craving for another spin of the tune or missed it the first time around. Sälen ventures into chill electronic territory with the candy coated gem, a song which the trio describe as a soundtrack for all the “bad decisions that felt so right at the time”. The effervescent whimsicality of the song certainly brings Grimes to mind, but with the sparkling spring of Mura Masa. Snag this charming treat from iTunes.

Elusive East London trio Sälen premiered a gorgeous new tune on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show the other night. Chime filled Diseasey is an affliction I’m more than happy to be infected by. Its weightlessly wispy electronic pop is cool to the touch and effervescent enchanting.

Sälen ventures into chill electronic territory with the candy coated gem, which the trio describe as a song to “soundtrack the bad decisions that felt so right at the time”. It’s “one for anybody who has found themselves in an awkward lust-driven situation and is left asking both themselves and their new pal, why am I in bed with you?”. Sounds like the perfect theme song for that moment before the walk of shame. Diseasey is out now via Machine Records.
