I’d say the most epic train rides I’ve had so far have occurred in Europe when I visited France and Spain in late 2015. London’s Saint Clair, or singer songwriter Emma Topolski, brings back some of the timeless elegance and beauty of those magical journeys with a moonlit pop sonata named Train. The soulful electropop on this gracefully evocative, sonorous sweeping aria even samples the sound of trains pulling in and out of London Bridge station. Svelte tinkling chords, rich resonating bass, and Emma’s deep dulcet voice have a fully spellbinding, powerfully haunting effect. As I ride this magnificent “train”, I gaze out at the night sky with wistful eyes. It would’ve been perfect to have Saint Clair accompany me on my rail adventures. Train will be on her debut EP D1, out on May 5th.

French speaking Londoner Saint Clair tours as part of Laura Marling’s live band and has collaborated with Kwabs and Ghostpoet, yet she finds time to craft and deliver enchanting gems like this one, Heavy On My Heart, whose earthy acoustics and poignant pure vocals drive straight for the heart. Those same acoustics soon blossom into atmospheric lush soulful pop brilliance as the song takes full flight, whisking me away alongside it.  Heavy On My Heart is a breathtaking second song, bursting with ruddy emotion, from this new singer songwriter whom I’m sure we’ll be hearing much more of.

Saint Clair is the second new artist to emerge from promising new label Wunderkind, whose roster is curated by Plan B’s Kieron McIntosh. The French speaking Londoner debuts with a graceful gem named Sailing. Sailing glides across crisp waters and into our hearts, a lavish burst of electro soul elegance and passionately broiling R&B. Sailing was produced by Ben Jones and Raffertie (Ninja Tune), and it’s a gorgeously shimmering yet deeply moving introduction to Saint Clair.
