Nashville, Tennessee duo The Spin Silhouette evokes a magical, shadowy soundscape carrying sounds similar to a blend of The Crystal Method, Tove Lo, and a touch of CHVRCHES on spellbinding new song Fortunate. It’s heavily atmospheric and cinematic, qualities that I much adore. For another taste of The Spin Silhouette’s electronic pop sound, listen to Runaways below, a far more buoyant and upbeat song. There’s a techno imbued vibrancy that makes it quite the dance floor ready tune, but there’s still plenty of dark edge.

I recently encountered an indie duo from Oklahoma named Clemency. Their indie rock and pop sound is so incredibly infectious and luminous. I’ve shared with you their radiant song Color Hit The Canvas, but now, let’s dive into new song Runaways, which come along with a brand new video. Runaways bursts with catchy hooks and a vibrant bittersweet passion that reminds me of recent anthems by Bleachers, WATERS, The Griswolds, and The Royal Concept. The video, which you can stream below, is part two of their six song video series. I’ll tack on Color Hit The Canvas again below, too, in case you let it slip through the cracks the last time around. Both songs are on their six track EP, You’ve Got The Fire, out February 10th. You can preview the full EP on Soundcloud, here. It’s chock full of terrific tunes encapsulating the sure to be buzzing band’s indie rock meets indie pop and alt rock sound.

The moment I first heard Australia’s Betty Who last year, I knew, she’s going to be a super pop star someday. Her sound evokes a blend of spunky P!nk and sassy Katy Perry, but with plenty of her own magnificent, enthralling style too. Since then, I’ve caught her live in a small club and been swept away by her charm and charisma live. She’s stunning on stage, captivating the crowd easily with her easy going, down to earth bubbly attitude. There’s seriously nothing to dislike about this fantastic, tall lady (and yes, she’s very tall indeed). This week, Betty unleashed her latest pop zinger, the deeply hooking Runaways, a track that seems to again ignite that Katy Perry comparison, but with some 80’s Cyndi Lauper-like lustrous buoyancy and plenty of neon, dreamy synths. Betty Who will be supporting Katy Perry on tour in Australia soon. Get ready for her inevitable rise to the top. It’s coming. Quote me on that.

Looking back on my earlier features, I find I’ve posted about Philadelphia duo Work Drugs numerous times over the past six months. Yet, here I am again, as they unveil new tune Runaways, the title track off the duo’s forthcoming sophomore album, out October 7 via Bobby Cahn Records. Like all of the prior features, Runaways is a catchy, hook laden synthpop tune, though this one’s a little more laid back and boasts some languid vibe compared to some of the previous tunes. It’s a bittersweet number with some delicious, Real Estate like, sunny airiness. Revisit more upbeat and buoyant Double Life below, which is the debut single from the coming album.

I almost forgot to check this out, but thanks to my share of Yacht’s remix of Parenthetical Girls earlier, I remembered to get around to it. When I talked about artists remixing music far removed from their own sounds, RAC invariably popped up in my head as a master of that type of work. RAC has remixed artists from all ends and points of the music spectrum, and done it so well. Here’s the newest remix from Remix Artist Collective. This time, it’s a light, much more airy dance pop approach to The Killers’ Runaways.

OFFICIAL VID: The Killers – Runaways

July 27, 2012

I apologize for today’s silence, been pretty busy with some other things. I’ll quickly throw a few highlights on. The Killers released their music video for new single Runaways, the first track off their upcoming new album Battle Born. The song has grown on me a lot since it was first previewed. It’s as signature sounding The Killers as it can be with its grandiose Vegas feel. Brandon looks great, as always.

New The Killers songs previewed live

July 20, 2012

There’s a lot of excitement about The Killers upcoming album Battle Born. Runaways is the first single off that album and we’ve all heard it in its grand epicness. The Killers previewed several more tracks off Battle Born at a live gig the other day, and here are some semi-decent fan videos of the new tunes. They’re all very sweeping and dramatic, as The Killers songs almost always are.
