It’s not that often that we share fully instrumental electronic tracks that aren’t centered around some sort of enthralling topline, but our encounter with Skybreak and his melodic dubstep on Redwood has convinced us it’s time to make a rare exception. The producer hails from New Jersey, and he describes himself as “a teenage Nintendo geek and nature lover with complex emotions expressed through music.” Complex indeed is Redwood, one of three captivating tracks off his new EP. It takes us soaring through the sky with its epic torrent of warbling bass and ambient synths. It almost feels like we’ve been drawn into a beautifully illustrated RPG game, or an old Nintendo classic painted in fluorescent colors, awash with pastel skies and sparkling seas. Redwood is a triumphant work of sonic art, and it’s a free download, here.

We’ve danced along to some magnificent house bangers from Speaker Of The House in the past, but on the Philadelphia electronic act’s new one, the producer goes chill ambient and dreamy serene. Redwood leaves within me an urge to explore the very forest pictured in the song’s artwork. As a cool mist slowly drifts about me, I lose myself in the thick of the grand and glorious redwoods, a minuscule being within the greatness of nature. Redwood leaves me in existential introspection, but the one thing most soothing and comforting about being in that setting is the fact that you realize that all those cares and worries that have been weighing you down are truly inconsequential. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel, and life goes on. You learn from the past, and move ahead. These redwoods will be here no matter what, and you can visit them anytime, and listen to Speaker Of The House while you’re at it, too. Life is good. Head over to Soundcloud to download Speaker Of The House’s breathtaking new song.

It’s been a crazy Monday for me, but I can never neglect music, not for one day, so let’s get going, shall we? Starting local with one of my favorite indie bands from my beloved old home Oakland, here’s Waterstrider’s new song Redwood! I recently declared my undying love for Waterstrider’s incredible cover of Little Dragon’s Twice, which ultimately drummed up a ton of buzz due to its undeniable brilliance. I’ve had the fortune to see Waterstrider at Sofar Sounds SF’s private shows, and I’m 100% certain they won the whole room over every time they played those events. This new gem Redwood is a captivating, folk flavored, soothing, yet stomping track with a delightfully warm, fuzzy vibe. Waterstrider is about to go on tour with Gardens & Villa, and they’re a band to watch closely for the year. They’re recording  a brand new album, too, and I’m looking forward to it!
