It’s been a wild ride, watching Gallant’s meteoric rise, none of it surprising considering the man’s exceptional vocal talent and insanely passionate delivery. Last month, the Grammy nominated artist returned with dark seductive Gentleman, and now he’s followed it up with an R&B pop track named Doesn’t Matter, marked by a lighter, airier sound that’s far more upbeat than many of his previous ballads. It’s his first official single of the year, out on Mind of a Genius / Warner Brothers, and it paves the path for the arrival of Gallant’s second full length album, one of the year’s most anticipated offerings. Gallant announced a new North American tour with Jamilia Woods the other day that will take place this fall. Stream/download Doesn’t Matter, here.

Janelle Monáe’s next album Dirty Computer is really shaping up to be a visionary release. If you haven’t heard Django Jane and Make Me Feel yet, you really need to check out their videos on her YouTube channel, here. The latest single revealed off the record is a must share, since it sees the actor and musician re-uniting with Grimes. The pair last released Venus Fly together, one of so many innovative pop songs from Claire Boucher’s last album Art Angels. And now, the duo are back with PYNK, an empowering anthem and a fabulous mixture of each of the duo’s signature synth laden R&B funk sounds. Dirty Computer, described as “an emotion picture*, arrives later this month on April 27. Pre-order the album or download the singles revealed so far off the release, here.

Like a fragrant perfume, Ayelle’s softly haunting, sensually hovering voice lures us into her new track Young, an electro-R&B and chill electronica ballad produced by Alex Lustig. The Swedish-Iranian siren and her Belgian cohort envelop us in gossamer flickering warmth on the finely textured, yet thickly intoxicating late night serenade. Young is a song drenched in honeyed nostalgia and sighing remorse. We tend to look to the past with rose colored glasses, and to the future with doubt and fear. Those relationships long gone often seem hard to measure up to after time has healed most of our hearts’ wounds. That idea of “what if” will always plague us, but at least we can rack our own minds in the most sublime manner possible, while accompanied by this feathery, milky nocturne.

They might be named Always Never, but they’re always always on point when it comes to their R&B soul. Or at least, that’s what we’ve come to learn over the course of the past year from the Toronto based singer production duo. I don’t know what it is about the water up there, but Toronto seems to spawn some of the most innovative and fresh new R&B projects. Always Never are back with a burning new tune named Millions. Ominous hip hop beats and sexy drawling vocals permeate the murky impassioned, ruddy stirring melter. You can grab the song from iTunes, here. Listen to more of Always Never’s music on Soundcloud, here.
