Ever enigmatic production luminary ZHU dropped his new EP Ringos Desert Pt 1 last month, on which he continued to push the boundaries of house music and electronica. We were hoping the new release and the lack of a Bay Area tour date on his fall DUNE tour meant he would be announced as part of this year’s Treasure Island Music Festival lineup. Though we’re rather disappointed that this hasn’t happened, we’re also quite glad that ZHU has dropped a music video for slinky smoldering

Still Want U, his song with England’s Karnaval Blues. It’s the second track from Ringos Desert Pt 1, and a sparse misty, spacious burbling dose of deep humming, sensual simmering house hypnosis. Learn more about ZHU’s DUNE tour, here. We’re holding out hope that there’s still going to be an announcement about additional dates. Stream Ringos Desert Pt 1, here.

I’d imagine very few of you missed the arrival of a new ZHU EP late last week, but just in case you did, and just because new ZHU is always worthy of much deserved praise, let’s marvel over the enigmatic producer’s latest volume of dark, sultry electronica! After all, we’ve been absolutely spellbound by the San Francisco-native’s music ever since he first released an Outkast cover mashup anonymously. Sure enough, the brilliant spark we saw in that track several years ago has since become a flaming inferno; ZHU is now a superstar. And he’s just dropped a seven track EP named Ringos Desert Pt 1, which can be streamed in full, here. The EP takes us on a journey across barren lands and through magnificent dunes, where windswept beats, howling synths, and rich bass quench our sonic thirst and give us sustenance to survive the wasteland of the arid world. Ringos Desert Pt. 1 even opens with a superb collaboration with Australian singer songwriter JOY. named “Stormy Love, NM”. Her ethereal vocals and tendency for hypnotic haunting music is the perfect fit for ZHU’s inky sleek, glossy opaque house. Catch ZHU on his DUNE fall tour later this year. No Bay Area date has been announced, but we’re predicting a Treasure Island Music Festival appearance considering the tour dates. Find out more, here.

[PREMIERE]
ANDRÆ – Dam

Belgium by way of London singer songwriter ANDRÆ, formerly known as Andre Tajchman, has been working on his new project for the past year. His meticulous dedication to crafting emotionally charged, atmospheric stunning soundscapes is more than apparent on new single Dam, our first taste of his forthcoming EP, Denial. Named after the Kübler-Ross model’s first stage of grief – ‘Denial’ – the EP will be a journey exploring the different emotions that accompany loss. ‘Dam’ is an analogy describing the breaking point when all repressed feelings finally flow out, destroying everything around. It’s a song about not being able to contain the pain that accompanies loss, and watching it come to the surface with force. Like a storm about to break, Dam is tightly wound and starkly striking. It courses with electrifying intensity despite its sparse minimalism and austere constitution. ANDRÆ’s soulful voice resonates with crisp, poignant clarity alongside Dam’s Balearic-styled steel drums. It’s a combination that evokes Nick Murphy and Jamie xx, steeped in gripping Until The Ribbon Breaks and SOHN-like aesthetics. The entrancing troubadour breaks down the walls that surround our hearts with the solemn weight of his grief driven, heartbreak inspired song, offering us the sweet release we need to begin healing from our very own blistering wounds. Watch ANDRÆ’s music video, shot in Hackney Wick, London, below. You can keep up with  ANDRÆ via his website, Facebook, or Instagram

Last month, chameleon production virtuoso TOKiMONSTA shared the music video for her song with Selah Sue, I Wish I Could, not too long after we learned about her battle with medical challenges after being diagnosed with a rare ailment named Moyamoya. We’ve long known how immensely talented the Los Angeles based artist is, even contributing to crowdfunding for her first music video back in the day. Jennifer Lee never fails to defy our expectations with her sonic concoctions and the spectrum of sound she gives us on her variegated releases. I Wish I Could, a smooth and seductive, polished and elegant electro R&B and hip hop chimera has now received a remix treatment from another favorite of ours, alt dance pioneers SOFI TUKKER! The Grammy-nominated pair give the soulful track a fresh influx of dance energy on their brisk bounding, bass rippling remix. There’s no way you can ever listen to anything involving SOFI TUKKER and not want to get up and dance. The edit is a part of TOKiMONSTA’s new talent studded Lune Rouge Remixed record, which can be streamed/downloaded, here. In related news, SOFI TUKKER has also dropped a fresh new track, and as always, they’ve dealt us some incendiary bass and feisty sass on Batshit, which you can stream below. You could say we’re batshit for SOFI TUKKER. After all, we’ve already pre-ordered the duo’s debut album, Treehouse, and you can do so too, here. It arrives on April 13th, which is next week! YES!

Aside from having a popping name that’s already imbued with a whole lot of frisky fire, Papa Ya has been inspiring us to dance our way to euphoria with their ebullient jams. The Los Angeles duo’s latest such tune is a heated bop named Explicit. R&B inflected vocals and firecracker beats swoon and crackle on the bass booming banger. Explicit’s a track that will be soundtracking our summer. It’s a lusciously grooving Years & Years meets Clean Bandit sort of theme for your epic pool parties and your passionate summer romances. You can also stream Explicit on Spotify, here.

Years ago, when I first started writing about music on I Heart Moosiq, I came across a Bulgarian artist named DENA, and I became insanely obsessed with her song “Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools”, which I still love to this day. It’s a wonderfully spunky and endearing song that immediately reminded me of early M.I.A. and now in retrospect, also reminds me of MØ. Re-visit the still awesome music video for the track below. DENA, now based out of Berlin, has been MIA (pun intended) from the scene for a very long time, so we were thrilled when we saw that she’d signed a new record deal and released new track Imaginary Friends, on which she goes an extra dance-y route, blending 90s inspired hypnotic house and smooth R&B with her entrancing drawl. You know what would be really cool? If Yaeji and DENA collaborated, or if Yaeji re-mixed Imaginary Friends. Tell me that wouldn’t be a sweet treat. Imaginary Friends is out now via Mansions and Millions.

There’s no limit to our love for Captain Kidd, or that’s what we’ve learned over the past two years from the Ohio quartet’s singles. They reinforce our penchant for their pop with recent single LIMIT, a bass pumping house pop jam whose incendiary heat and swaggering beats are like Years and Years with a drizzle of Sofi Tukker’s torrid groove. Desire fueled LIMIT is one to take into the late hours of the night, when you can dance without abandon in the embrace of dark shadows. Re-visit some of Captain Kidd’s prior singles on Soundcloud, here.

London’s BB Diamond spent the past year holed up in her studio with the likes of DJ Fresh, 99 Souls, and LDN Noise, but she’s finally re-emerged with our first taste of that new music. Man Or A Monster is a charged R&B pop/house track that exhibits BB Diamond’s evolution as an artist. The Shift K3y collaboration is both ready for the dance floor or those solo sing-alongs that help you get over the toxic relationships you know better than to keep around. BB says: “Man Or A Monster is a F.U to all those serial relationship cheaters and deceivers. In any relationship there is the good and bad, but when it all turns ugly, that’s when you need to get the hell out of there!"

As well as putting the finishes touches to her own new music, BB will also appear on ‘Raise A Glass’, a track she worked on with Ryan Blyth, which will be released via Columbia Records, in 2018.

In the confusing flurry of SXSW lineups that keep surfacing on the daily these days, I’ve noticed that Party Pupils will be making their way out to Austin next week, too. It comes as no surprise that MAX, who’s one half of Party Pupils will also be making an appearance. That’s double the reason for some festive celebrations, and who else but the slick dance troupe is perfect for soundtracking a massive dance party with their rambunctious bangers? They’ve even teamed up with their buddy from Connecticut, esteemed DJ and producer Audien, for a fresh take on Montell Jordan classic This Is How We Do It. Is there any more appropriate track for an elite production duo like Party Pupils?  This Is How We Do It is a timeless New Jack Swing party anthem. This updated cover reboot from Party Pupils and Audien both brings the old school back and gets us grooving with its future funk dance floor energy. Plus, those fresh vocals are sizzling hot! Grab the hot jam from iTunes, here.

You know you’re in for a mighty fine treat when 23 year old UK singer songwriter and producer MNEK drops a fresh tune on us. Over the years, he’s racked up a billion streams across his releases and collaborations. That’s how much rapport and affinity he inspires in people. I imagine a whole lot of dancing has occurred, too. And dance you’ll want to do as we take in Tongue, a smoldering and sexy electronic banger about falling in love and being too nervous to say it out loud. It’s a flushed and sensuous, passionate and feverish R&B electro jam and an absolutely electrifying return. Watch MNEK’s lyric video for Tongue below. Tongue is available across all major platforms, here.
