The video for Nite Jewel’s heady single How It Was arrives just in time for the start of Ramona Gonzalez’s new headlining tour, which is kicking off this Friday at Popscene in San Francisco. How It Was is lifted off of Real Low, a new collection of B-sides from Nite Jewel’s critically acclaimed album Real High. The full collection is available from Bandcamp, here. The song can also be found on a her new Italians Do it Better 12″ EP, a gorgeous limited edition pink vinyl, available, here. Nite Jewel, ever renowned for her cutting edge electro R&B, has crafted quite the gossamer and diaphanous piece in How It Was. It’s utterly spellbinding, and feathery intoxicating.

OFFICIAL VID: Droop-E (feat. Nite Jewel & J-Stalin) – ‘N The Traffic’

January 25, 2013

Droop-E is the son of E-40. It only makes sense that he takes after his pops. On Droop-E’s new track and video, he teams up with bedroom pop/r&b musician Nite Jewel (Ramona Gonzalez) and fellow San Francisco Bay rapper J-Stalin to create this old skool sounding, grooving track titled ‘N The Traffic’. I never thought about how much Nite Jewel’s vocals could fit a hip hop or rap track, but now that I’ve heard it, it’s like.. duh! This is some good, smoooooth stuff. Droop-E is working on an EP titled Hungry And Humble.

Nite Jewel, aka Ramona Gonzalez, puts out some smooth, groovy tunes. Knowing her style and sound, I already knew this was gonna be a sure win. She covered Michael Jackson’s P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) and does it incredibly well. It’s a slowed down, red hot, sexy jam and a far cry from MJ’s original fast paced disco dance classic.

Julia Holter X Nite Jewel

September 4, 2012

A 15 track album titled Light From Los Angeles is in the works. The compilation will feature a bunch of collaborations between SoCal artists. The first tune to be unveiled is What We See, a dreamy collaboration between Julia Holter and Nite Jewel. The washed out video is beautiful, and the song is very warm and ethereal.

Nite Jewel covering Frank Ocean

July 24, 2012

Who isn’t covering Frank Ocean these days? Everyone’s on the Frank Ocean bandwagon now that Channel Orange has debuted and Mr. Ocean has proven himself to be one brave, respected man. Here’s a video of Ramona Gonzalez, aka the talented Nite Jewel, covering Thinking About You at a show. It sounds lovely. Hopefully, I can make her Popscene show in September!

OFFICIAL VID: Nite Jewel – One Second Of Love

March 1, 2012

Ramona Gonzalez, aka Nite Jewel, released the video for the title track off her new album One Second Of Love today. The wackiness and demeanor of people in the video reminds me of stuff from Chairlift and other quirky electro-poppers. Halfway through the video, it gets even more weird. Fittingly, Nite Jewel is opening up for Chairlift on tour. The new wave-y song has definitely grown on me a lot since I first previewed it.

With a new record coming out in March and a name that’s rising in popularity oh so quickly lately, Los Angeles artist Nite Jewel delights us with another new track off the album titled In The Dark. Ramona Gonzalez’ vocals are gorgeous on this dreamy, synthy track, as always.

Ramona Gonzalez, aka Nite Jewel, has a new album slated for release soon. Here’s the title track, One Second of Love. I hear some Annie Lennox in the heavily 80’s influenced song.
