Our long time favorite and heart pummeling crooner Michael Joseph Nelson has released his new EP as BANNERS, and the Liverpool singer songwriter continues to move the soul and tug at every corner of the heart with his anthemic ballads on the release. Empires on Fire is the title track from the five track alt pop release, and it’s quite the widescreen burst of catharsis, particularly propelled by Nelson’s ever affecting voice. It’s a must for fans of Keane or Coldplay’s key tinkling, guitar effusive ballads. BANNERS also recently unveiled a music video for EP opener and previously featured stellar song, Someone To You. Watch the clip below.  Stream BANNERS’ Empires On Fire EP in full on Soundcloud, here. Get it, here.

Liverpool singer songwriting project BANNERS never ceases to amaze and move us with that incredible voice and his heart rending music. Michael Joseph Nelson hasn’t skipped a beat since the days when he made his debut as RAINES, and he’s about to release another tour de force EP this fall. Once more, he holds our hearts in the palm of his hand as he serenades us with his sentimental alt pop on Firefly. Its grandiose soundscape, complete with post-rock like keys and guitar, is a breathtaking and cathartic affair. BANNERS says:

“Firefly is about meeting someone who makes you feel brand new, like you can be anything. The feeling that any distance between you is too far and that nothing and nobody else in the world really matters.” BANNERS will be announcing new headline dates in the U.S. in the coming months. Firefly is out on iTunes, here.

I still remember clearly the day when I first stumbled upon BANNERS’ ever melting music. It was well over two years ago, and the Liverpool singer songwriter was going by the name of RAINES at the time. You could say my heart was Michael Joseph Nelson’s from the moment debut single Ghosts met my ears. It’s been a year and a half since BANNERS released his gorgeously stirring self titled debut album. True story, earlier this month I was wondering to myself where BANNERS has gone and what he’s been up to. As oft seems to happen, soon after I ruminate over missing someone’s music, something new arrives. Behold, Someone To You, a magnificently stomping folk inflected alt pop anthem on which Nelson’s velvety cushioned voice full on soars. Someone To You is the prelude to BANNERS’ upcoming second EP, scheduled to be released in August via Island. The single is described as uplifting and universal, with elements of Mumford & Sons and Ed Sheeran. To me, Someone To You is still so warmly emotive in a manner that is 100% BANNERS. The single is out on iTunes, here. I’m excited. New EP in August can only mean lots more moving music from BANNERS over the course of an about to be very magical summer.

From those very first days as RAINES, BANNERS’ Michael Joseph Nelson has been melting our hearts with his poignant and beautiful music. The Liverpool native will be embarking on a new 14 city headlining North American tour come February 8th, and I highly recommend you make it out to one of the shows. Michael’s voice is even more magnificent live, if you can believe that to be possible. In the meantime, BANNERS premiered a music video for recent single Holy Ground, a tender drifter with rich orchestral swells. The video even stars actress Ashley Greene (Twilight, Rogue). It’s a visually captivating treat for the eyes while BANNERS leads us on a path to emotional catharsis with his soaring ballad. You can purchase the single now from iTunes.

It’s been a long while since we heard anything new from Liverpool’s BANNERS, and though I’ve been fortunate enough to have my heart melted by his exquisite voice a number of times in person this year, there’s nothing quite like the excitement of hearing a brand new tune. Though we’re used to the musician’s bittersweet stirring, tender atmospheric alt pop, BANNERS chooses to take a slightly different route on Into The Storm. He’s presented us with a vivacious chugging alt rock marcher, a lifting assurance of support regardless of what may come, rain or shine. This robust cut is a heart pumping delight, a fearless and hopeful anthem as touching as it is empowering. The single is out now on iTunes via Island Records.

I’ve been deeply in love with BANNERS’ music since his days under the moniker RAINES early this year. Sure, he only had two songs out and about prior to today, but Ghosts and Shine A Light are some of the most heart melting, beautiful music I’ve listened to all year long. It only makes sense that breakout UK singer songwriter has since signed to Island Records, even landing a coveted spot on the Spotify Spotlight 2016 list, which happens to be filled with artists and bands I’m obsessed about. Today, BANNERS reveals his third single, Start A Riot, and my heart and soul devour it ravenously as he swoons me yet again with his tender, melodic alternative pop and rock. Long time BANNERS fans, like me, would be delighted to learn that he’s also announced a debut EP. The self titled five song collection will be out January 15th. Visit BANNERS’ soundcloud to revisit Ghosts and Shine A Light. You might want to get some tissue ready in case you find yourself bawling over the emotional rapport of his music.

BANNERS’ Shine The Light is as majestic as they come, a riveting follow up to debut song Ghosts, which was released under BANNERS’ prior moniker, RAINES. Ghosts was already an incredibly sweeping and expansive number, but Shine The Light is even more magnificent. It bursts with infectious melody, grandiose instrumentals, and a regal confidence. BANNERS showcases some amazing vocals on the song, which the UK singer songwriter describes as being about “feeling lost at sea and desperately searching for a beacon of light. It’s about waiting for that one big wave to finally pull you under while clinging on to that last ray of hope. It’s a song to the person in your life that offers salvation while the storm is raging around you.” Perhaps this song itself is salvation, considering its soaring emotion and mighty power. I’ll be waiting for more new music from BANNERS, coming later this year.

I couldn’t really wait to share this one with you, having heard it prior to today’s reveal date, and having returned to it this morning after it’s gone live, only to find it has grown on me even more in the course of that time. Newcomer RAINES’ debut Ghosts sent delicious chills straight through my very soul just now, with its sweeping, melting beauty and atmospheric, sparse arrangement. I’m still in the midst of a very crazy March, balancing much on all fronts, with tons more waiting on my plate, but for a little over four minutes, everything else was forgotten. Nothing mattered but the moving, rousing feels and shivers that Ghosts brought forth, with its soothing melody and exceptionally stirring vocals. The Liverpool based artist, aka Mike Nelson, has certainly swept me off my feet and far into the stratosphere with this exquisite, intimate debut. He said that the song is very important to him, as it’s about his dreams and his nightmares. Ghosts is about having someone to fight the world with, love and loss, and also, the idea that these feelings don’t stop just because a relationship has. Someone bring a mop over. Clean up on aisle one, I’m a sappy, sighing puddle right now.
