Each of the handful of times I’ve managed to catch Pumarosa live has been more fiercely glorious than the last, whether at home here in San Francisco or halfway across the nation in Austin. The East London outfit’s debut album, The Witch, is undoubtedly a spring arrivals I’m wildly excited for this year. Today, Pumarosa unveiled a new track off the forthcoming record, enticing us with sultry haunting, steady burning alt pop and noise rock on Dragonfly. The song come at us bold and ferocious. It reminds me of Siouxsie and the Banshees as well as Savages with some of Anna Calvi’s flaring guitar chords. It seems rather proper that Pumarosa’s first album is named The Witch. There’s always been something so bewitching about this band’s ruddy impassioned, darkly eerie music. The Witch arrives May 19th via Harvest Records, pre-order, here.

I know I’ve said it before, but Pumarosa was so fiercely fabulous when I caught them in Austin for SXSW that I need to shout it over the rooftops again. This five piece from East London knows how to command a stage with their rambunctious driving rock. San Francisco will get to witness their magnificence on September 20th when Pumarosa arrives to play the Rickshaw Stop. Today, Pumarosa dropped their new self titled EP, from which comes Honey, a moody raw, barbed shimmering tune whose intensive yelping, dense mass, and gazey post punk evokes the likes of Savages and Eagulls. Purchase Pumarosa’s new EP from iTunes.

London’s Pumarosa was ferocious on stage when serendipity hit and I happened to get to a SXSW showcase just in time for their outdoor midday set. They had the crowd fixated on their passionate performance and inebriated on their pummeling fierce dance rock. Pumarosa makes a magnificent new msuic return on Cecile, a thoroughly captivating and sexy rampage, its saxophone solo, yelping vocals, and seductive groove combining for one of the most rousing listens this year. Someday, Pumarosa’s going to make their way over to San Francisco. I’ll be at that show. Purchase Cecile from iTunes.
