After a long hiatus, English experimental folktronica band Tunng are back! They’re preparing to release a new album on August 24th, and they’ve shared a killer new coruscant shimmering tune named ABOP via a vividly colored psychotropic music video. It’s a lavish psych folk and electro song with rhythmic hooking beats. I’ve already watched the video for ABOP several times since I encountered it earlier today. It’s easily one of my favorite pieces of new music this month. I can only imagine what else Tunng has in store for us on their new album Songs You Make At Night, which can be pre-ordered, here. Tunng will head out on a limited UK/EU tour this fall. Dates can be found, here.

Lake Jons released their marvelous self titled debut album last month. In the days leading up to its arrival, we shared many of the Finnish lo-fi pop and psych folk band’s songs. Just as we expected, their debut album doesn’t contain a single banal track. Give Away is but one of many splendid songs from the record, and today we partake in its spacey warbling, jaunty stirring rock together. I’d encountered it on Soundcloud during my musical discovery adventures, and I just couldn’t resist popping it up for a share since it’s such a wonderfully intoxicating, heady shimmering delight. I know I’m truly digging a band when I can’t seem to stop sharing each and every one of their new singles as they appear. Helsinki’s Lake Jons has quickly becoming one of our most regular guests on IHM with their blissful blend of space pop and psych folk. Lake Family is as euphoric a track as the buzzing band has put out, a driving progression of dreamy synths and meditative vocals, embellished with a rambunctious pattern of percussion. It arrives ahead of Lake Jons’ self titled debut album this Friday on AntiFragile Music, which will explore themes of introspection, existentialism, and human relationships, with lyrics detailing a quieter existence. Lake Family can be streamed or purchased from various outlets, here. You can re-visit Lake Jons’ prior releases on Soundcloud, here, as we count down the days to that debut album on Friday.

Lake Jons’ music just seems to get better and better with every new release from the Helsinki band’s forthcoming self titled debut album. My heart swells with love as the three piece enraptures us with their eccentric psych pop and folktronica on warped new single, Call Me. I find my mind drifting away joyously to the meditative twirling, spacey warbling lo-fi gem. Call Me’s pastoral beauty and kaleidoscopic distortion are like Ry X or Ásgeir Trausti fused with some Animal Collective and Tame Impala. Lake Jons’ debut album arrives January 19th via AntiFragile Music.

Helsinki based psych-folk trio Lake Jons recently announced their self-titled debut album, arriving on January 19th via AntiFragile Music. Our excitement for its release grows as the three piece reveals dynamic new single Breathe Out The Fumes. It’s a delicately stomping, aerial fluttering song that melds the earthiness of Milky Chance with the diaphanous texture of Ry X or Ásgeir Trausti alongside copious dusting of warped psychedelia. Lake Jons’ debut album wil feature a calm and persistent “life will go on” motif. The band retreated to an isolated cabin deep in a Finnish forest during the summer months of the year to write the album. Re-visit prior single Colors and the band’s other releases on Soundcloud, here.

There’s much to celebrate today if you’re one of the many fans of James Vincent McMorrow who inhabit the world. The Irish singer songwriter has surprised us all with a new album entitled True Care, which you can stream in its entirety via Soundcloud, here. For now, let’s partake in the title track together so that we can melt away to JVM’s sweet quivering falsettos and his lush warbling alt folk. True Care initially feels stripped down and intimate compared to the richness of his stunning 2016 album We Move, but the ornately adorned ballad is just as emotively haunting, if not even more so. Read more about the meaning and inspiration behind James Vincent McMorrow’s new album, here.

I’m extremely fond of Brooklyn band Lucius an their dusty soulful indie pop, as you likely know if you’ve been an IHM follower for the past several years. Lucius member Dan Molad (producer/drummer) carries over plenty of that earthy charm into his solo project CHIMNEY. The first single from his self titled debut is a lovely ambler named Walk Don’t Run. If James Mercer and Lucius had a wild child, it might sound something like this psych folk permeated indie rock gem, which comes with a peculiarly riveting video which seems to play on certain classic fables. CHIMNEY’s self titled debut album will be arriving on June 23rd via Dine Alone Records.

The two members of this new Los Angeles band, CONES, are already involved in some magnificent bands. Brothers Jonathan and Michael Rosen both play in Eleanor Friedberger, and Michael also plays keys in Chris Cohen’s band. They pair up on their new project to give us an easy breezy tune named Echoes On for their first single. The sun dappled, supine hovering indie rock found on their lilting tune is striated with psychedelic folk, making it sound like The Decemberists gone The Shins.  Jonathan Rosen is also an animator, having done all of the animation for Toro Y Moi’s Live From Trona concert film last year and worked on videos for Eleanor Friedberger and Delicate Steve. He even did all the drawings in the animated video for CONE’s Echoes On. Learn more about this exciting pair from their site, here.

Ah, Dan Croll, you charming British musician, you. We’ve missed you oh so much and we’re so glad you’re back with a second song from your forthcoming Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Cee Lo Green) produced album out later this year. Away From Today follows on the heels of last summer’s Swim, the lead single from that imminent sophomore album. Dan has even released a music video for the lush meandering folktronica gem. Watch as he jogs and saunters through beautiful forests and up majestic rocky hills to his afro beats suffused chiming fresh fusion of psych folk and alt pop. It’s almost like José González and Broken Bells united to jam out in a dusty village near the Serengeti. And Tarantino dropped by to direct the whole shindig. Away From Today is out on all major outlets, here.

Last month, a new supergroup surfaced comprising of Lykke Li, Andrew Wyatt, Pontus Winnberg, Björn Yttling, and Jeff Bhasker, or in other words., a conglomerate of talent involving the likes of Lykke Li, Miike Snow, and Peter Bjorn and John. Liv gave us a rather enchanting debut named Wings Of Love, which they’ve now followed up with Dream Awake. As its name suggests, this gauzy opaque mixture of folk, psychedelia, and lo-fi dream pop takes us to a place in between worlds. We hang in mid air, lost in the beauty of this desolate yet tender song. Dream Awake is out now on Swedish label INGRID.
