Acoustic All Your Lights

December 22, 2011

Portugal. the Man recorded this acoustic performance of their song All Your Lights. Man, it feels good to listen to them again, and it hasn’t even been that long, has it? Loving this acoustic version a lot. And can’t say how glad I am the band was eventually able to retrieve most of their equipment after the whole burglary bullcrap at Lollapalooza earlier this year. I hate hearing when bands have bad things like that happen to them; they work so hard and people who would do that to others and then sleep well at night are just pure evil.

Django Django

December 21, 2011

O_O That was my reaction the first few bars of this song Default from Django Django. The new British band blurs a ton of genres in their psychedelic, noise rock, post punk, beat infused, hard-to-describe, bluesy, even a little disco pop sound… This is definitely groundbreaking and innovative. Wow. You must check this out. Whether you like it or not, you have to agree this is unique. I just listened to it on repeat several times.

Whoa, trippy. Here’s the official video for Panda Bear’s You Can Count On Me, off the Animal Collective member’s album Tomboy.

OFFICIAL VID: Peanut Butter Lovesickle – Black Eyed Blues

December 20, 2011

I’m not sure what to say about the name of the Brooklyn band, not that it’s bad, but it sounds so sticky…The song sure sounds good though. Black Eyed Blues is off an upcoming EP due in March. The song reminds me a bit of The Black Keys with its blues rock, which has certainly picked up in popularity these days in the alt rock genre. The video also features Ed Westwick from Gossip Girl as well as model Julie Henderson. Looks like these guys are on the up and up with stamps of approvals from many.

I Want To Forget

December 9, 2011

I Want To Forget is another specimen of how dream pop and rap can mix very well together. The track is from Illinois duo Psychic Twin and features JGoodie on rap vocals. The background instrumentals made me think of Youth Lagoon, but more simplistic and less woozy.

P.tM Lomography event footage

December 5, 2011

Here’s an artsy, crystal clear video filled with footage from a Lomography Gallery Event that Portugal. the Man supported and performed at. The video is set to their song So American, off of In The Mountain In The Cloud from earlier this year, which was a fine album through and through.

Here’s Lions of Least from Pontiak, off upcoming album Echo Ono. The beginning instrumentals and vocals (and some of the bass and guitars throughout) made me think of Battles. It’s a drone heavy, brooding, psych-rock song. Pontiak is a three brother band from Virginia signed to the Thrill Jockey label.

OFFICIAL VID: Peaking Lights – Hey Sparrow

November 28, 2011

Husband and wife duo Peaking Lights released a video today for the chill, atmospheric track Hey Sparrow off album 936. The video fits in psychadelic feel with its ethereal slo-mo visuals.

of Montreal’s brand new track

of montreal

Wintered Debts is rumored to be on their upcoming album Paralytic Stalks. It’s an interesting track starting out super acoustic, then trekking into off kilter sounding pop territory. It’s a trip for sure…

black lips

Here’s a black and white video for Black Lips’ Raw Meat. And no, I’m not making any statements about the current political climate and the protests going on in the world. 😉 The track is off of album Arabia Mountain, which was produced by Mark Ronson (surprising, no?).
