Sunny psychedelia abounds on Cones’ latest single Whatever You’re Into, making us fully aware that the LA by way of SF duo is what we’re fully into, especially after earlier songs like Back In The Brain and Echoes On received florid praise from us, too. The brothers, both of whom formerly played in Eleanor Friedberger’s band, never fail to move us with their gooey warm groove and a silky smooth synthpop sheen. Whatever You’re Into’s funky breeze and plush velour bring to mind Toro Y Moi and Electric Guest, but with an extra dose of chiffon languor and a misty strut. NYC based singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jachary comes swinging out of the gates on Yellow Vision, his first taste off a forthcoming debut EP, There’s A Virus Going On. Well, we certainly feel a little feverish after breaking a sticky sweat twirling about to this quirky tune, which certainly stands out as unique and fresh. Psychedelic pop and brassy R&B funk gets drenched in wavy, muggy summer heat. Toss in a pinch of jazzy bossa nova and throw in an island breeze, and we have an absolutely contagious swooner. Yellow Vision is out on iTunes, here.

I don’t know you, but I’m still stuck on Opals & Banonos. That song is just pure bliss, and its title is so much fun to say. It was our very first introduction to Jason Nolan last year, and you can re-visit it, here. We still don’t know too much about the musician behind that magical tune and a fabulous 2016 EP entitled Wonder Years, but we do know he’s Canadian, and we can’t help but obsess over his new song, Don King, too. It’s a preview off of Nolan’s forthcoming EP Late Night City Hawks. An explosion of slick swervy, jazzy fluttering, and psychedelic curling funk pop greets our ears as we dive head first into this heady carousel ride.

Speaking about the song, Nolan quotes: “Don King is about how it feels when things are made deliberately confusing or when there is such a circus around things, that you are encouraged to be either apathetic or cynical. I feel like currently there are groups on all sides trying there upmost to reject a forced narrative, while many are left feeling a bit useless and confused.”

New EP Late Night City Hawks will be released later this year via Majestic Records. You can stream Jason Nolan’s music on Spotify, here.

An emerging quartet from Belgium named Felix Pallas has cast quite the eccentric spell on me with their brand of music on new single Similarities, which they dub “alien synth pop”. This slinky psychedelic combination of alt pop, indie electronica, and funky space rock is a refreshingly unconventional encounter. It’s a bit like Portugal. the Man gone Tame Impala, or Glass Animals gone Temples. Similarities is available on iTunes, here. The song seems to be this compelling four piece’s third single. You can visit their prior releases on Soundcloud, here.

I’m crazy excited for Little Dragon’s new album Season High, even more so than I originally expected despite the fact that I’m fully aware of how much I love the Swedish neo-soul and electropop project fronted by charismatic Yukimi Nagano. Sweet and High have shown us how much Little Dragon continues to push boundaries and think outside of the box on their new material. It’s obvious Season High is going to be one of their most brilliant and creative records yet, with heady and edgy offerings. They continue this trajectory on fresh taste Celebrate, a snappy funking jam that recalls some of their earlier offerings, but with a bounteous amount of psychedelic embellishment and plenteous throwback Prince vibes. Celebrate can also be streamed via Soundcloud below. Season High drops soon on April 14th. Pre-order digitally from iTunes or physically, here. Then celebrate, with Celebrate!

Yehan Jehan is an up and coming musician from London who dropped his debut single Swallow The Horizon to much critical acclaim last year. On the heels of that success comes Phantom’s Beat, a slinky swaggering, kaleidoscopic spiraling spread of gooey funk and psychedelic rock. If you’ve wondered what Tame Impala and Electric Guest might sound like together, Yehan Jehan has your answer. Phantom’s Beat’s vintage styled music video is a perfect fit for the retro currents running through the song. Come May 2nd, Yehan Jehan will be playing his first ever live show at London’s Thousand Island. You can purchase or stream Phantom’s Beat via various other outlets, here.

Oh I’m feeling it alright today, thanks to my faves, Portugal. the Man. The Alaskan natives are back with their first proper single in awhile, not including their electro groovy one off, Noise Pollution, from earlier this year. The groovalicious, funkadelic psych pop vibes they deal out on Feel It Still are decadent and scrumptious. It shimmies and swaggers with a slick sheen and a soulful vintage charm. Feel It Still is like Danger Mouse gone Fitz and the Tantrums. The hooking jam, which I’ve already listened to countless times today, is likely a taste from Portugal. the Man’s next album, Gloomin + Doomin. No release date has been announced yet, but I’m hoping we get to hear it by the time the band plays their Greek Theatre show in Berkeley on July 28th. They’ll be playing an intimate show at the Independent in San Francisco on March 13th, too!

Donald Glover’s Childish Gambino continues to blow our minds with the new music he’s been revealing off of new album “Awaken, My Love!” due out December 2nd on Glassnote Records. On the heels of last week’s jaw dropping Me And Your Mama comes Redbone, a gooey trickling, spacey psychedelic funk and soul slow groover much like Danger Mouse gone Prince. Yes, it’s that sumptuous of a sexy jam. Pre-order what could very well be one of the best albums of 2016, here.

It’s only Wednesday, yet I must concur with the title of Magic Bronson’s latest song, What A Week. How it’s not already Thursday or Friday evades my brain, but at least time flies by far quicker when we have intoxicating tunes like this one to keep us company. The Los Angeles based band offer up experimental psychedelia on What A Week. This wonky surreal, funky sashaying song takes the slinky seduction of Glass Animals and the stylish velour of Metronomy on a foggy hallucinogenic trip down electronica lane. Add in a touch of bossa nova like shimmies, and we have most unique and innovative captivator.
