joan tenderizes our hearts then liquefies them into molten goo with their new retro-pop heartrender, ‘i loved you first’. The Little Rock, Arkansas pair, who’ve also announced spring tour dates with San Francisco’s Geographer, deliver a prom-ready ballad drenched in tender melancholy and wistful sentimentality. ‘i loved you first’ encapsulates everything you wanted to say to your middle school first crush, but couldn’t without an adequate amount of self growth and reflection. Glazed chords, aching guitar, and joan’s sweet, glossy cooing brings back all the bittersweet feels of those ill-fated crushes and doe-eyed, youthful romances. If you missed out on joan’s music despite the fact that we’ve been fervently featuring the pair’s tunes for the past year, check out their prior releases, here. Keep up with the band and their tour dates on their website, here.

Swedish folk troupe First Aid Kit, a favorite of ours for such a long time, have been drumming up a fresh new flood of buzz lately with the songs they’ve revealed from their next album Ruins. Much of the music we’ve heard so far from the album have been extra rustic compared to some of their prior material, but new song Fireworks takes a bit of a turn. It’s a melting dream pop flavored canticle, accompanied by a heavily nostalgic video that pays tribute to the 80s with its idyllic prom setting. Fireworks is without a doubt my favorite new FAK song off Ruins so far, a Beach House meets Lykke Li styled ambler with ample pastoral charm. I’ve been melting away to it since its trademark First Aid Kit harmonies came to light last Friday, and now you can, too. Ruins arrives January 19th, pre-order, here.

It’s an ear popping, thoroughly scintillating new song that PROM brings us with vivacious soaring Let It Out. Despite its zip and zest, the Brooklyn synthpop duo’s latest is also fully enchanting, a twinkling radiant, thoughtful musing examination of what people say compared to what they truly mean. Let It Out comes from PROM’s debut full length, Holding Pattern, set for release on August 23rd. This long time fan of the two piece is certainly looking forward to that date.

We haven’t heard from Brooklyn duo PROM in over a year, but I was ecstatic to find out that they’ve recently returned with a brand new song named Not About Dying, lugging along plenty of that warm, synthy dreaminess that I love about them. PROM goes glitchy and sweeping on Not About Dying, a music tonic full of uplifting rejuvenation. There’s no question this song isn’t about dying, but about living, as it soars and flies, taking me along for the exhilarating ride. Not About Dying is a radiant M83 meets future pop Purity Ring elixir, one that I can’t live without the more I listen to it. Purchase PROM’s superb new song on iTunes.

PROM’s Flickers is the first tune I heard from the Brooklyn synthpop duo over a month ago, and it’s still my favorite. Of course, a gorgeous new video means a requisite re-share, especially since the video was shot by the crew of Boardwalk Empire right after the final season of that HBO show ended (sad, I loved it). Flickers is a warm, soaring, and dreamy synth number, full of Ghost Beach mugginess and M83 like dramatics. Incidentally, PROM is signed to Ghost Beach’s label, Crazy Heart Records. The duo’s debut EP, Keeping Company, is out right now, available to stream here.

Over the past several weeks, I’ve been excitedly sharing with you some fantastic music from new Brooklyn duo PROM, signed to Ghost Beach’s label Crazy Heart Records. It’s no surprise they’re signed to that label, considering their dreamy synthpop music. Today, PROM released their debut EP, Keeping Company. Off the new EP comes soaring, lush opener, My Line, a very M83 like cosmic beauty. It’s an uplifting number that makes me feel as if I have the power to reach out and touch the sky. Stream PROM’s debut EP, here.

Gliding, luxuriant, and uplifting comes Brooklyn duo PROM’s latest, the airy and weightless indie pop gem Switch On. It’s another swirly, summery, and catchy treat from the band that recently gave us Flickers. The duo is signed to Ghost Beach’s label Crazy Hearts Records, and it’s easy to see why they appeal to Ghost Beach with their similarly warm and dreamy synth sound. Excuse me as I go spin around the room languidly…
