Future bass and elaborate trap is lifted to a whole new level on Pressure, a recent collaboration from electronic artist Jameston Thieves and guest vocalist Evalyn, whose beautifully crystalline voice is accompanied by a sensationally dynamic field of electronica on his impeccable track. We’re taken for a breathtaking ride by the song’s neon whizzing synths and sharp percolating beats. Every moment on this journey is different from the last, every twist and turn keeps us blissfully on our toes. Stream/download Pressure, here.

Just before I dove into writing up a fresh set of features for the day, I decided to rummage through YouTube one last time to see if I could turn up any new gems. That’s when I came across VODI, a seven piece independent band from Houston, Texas. They recently put forth a music video for their single, Pressure, and I found myself immediately drawn into their dusty rolling rock, which very much reminds me of bands like The War On Drugs and Fleetwood Mac,  both of whom I love dearly. Right away, I knew. I had to find more of VODI’s music. Upon digging deeper, I came to realize that VODI’s debut album Talk, which came out last year, is something to cherish. Its a nourishing nine track record, whose twangy guitars and melancholic drawls are weathered and worn, like your favorite leather jacket, or those tattered jeans that hug your hips perfectly. VODI is soothing and comforting, even while they pluck at the very scars that still adorn your weary heart. Punctuating many of their songs are fine moments of spacey psychedelic elements that add to the depth and captivation of their music. Stream debut album Talk below and support on iTunes, here. Trust me, you won’t regret it, and you just might find yourself falling head over heels for VODI, like I did.

If there any “pressure” after Los Angeles newcomer DENM blew up the scene with his superb debut, LIT, he sure shrugged it off with ease. DENM follows his first song up with style by delivering us a sublime second single named Under Pressure. Chill deep dance meets dreamy soulful pop on this summer lush, swooning sensual electronic pop gem. My heart pounds exuberantly alongside Under Pressure’s warm throbbing beats. DENM’s two for two when it comes to sleek intoxicating tunes. Stream LIT again below if you somehow missed it the first time around. Under Pressure is a free download, here.

It’s time for some zippy Britpop and rollicking post punk, courtesy of a London quartet named Shiners. The band has just finished playing summer shows with Spector, The Bohicas, and Nothing But Thieves. However, their rip roaring single, Pressure, is a huge dose of screechy guitars, dance rock energy, and spunky vocals. The end concoction is more similar to a fusion between the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Blur, and Gang Of Four. Watch SHINERS’ brand new video for Pressure below. Shiners just played their debut headline show last night in London.

With a wonky, flittering production style and driven by enchanting vocals and a gently snappy beat comes Pressure, a transfixing, ethereal new song from Montreal electro-pop duo Milk & Bone. Pressure is like a more wispy, delicate, and illuminated Purity Ring meets Sylvan Esso song. It floats up in the clouds, rather than crawls in the shadows. The song is the first single from Milk & Bone’s debut album, Little Mourning, due for release in March.

LYRIC VID: Youngblood Hawke – Pressure

March 12, 2014

It’s been a fast year since Los Angeles indie pop band Youngblood Hawke first surfaced on our radar and delighted us with their infectious songs, including the for awhile quite ubiquitous We Come Running. Their debut album Wake Up was filled with equally catchy and upbeat pop tunes. Well, guess what? They’re back! Pressure is their new single, and like last year’s songs, Pressure is another earworm of a vibrant song. It has an ample dash of funky groove that will get you itching to move.

I love The 1975. And I love UK garage, especially the strong revival going on right now in the music scene. The two usually are miles away from each other, but thanks to this sweet Artful remix, we now have a version of The 1975’s Pressure filled with some great garage bass. And hey, it actually works wonders! Who knew? Matt Healy should lend his vocals to more UK garage tunes! The remix is off of the deluxe version of The 1975’s excellent debut album. Visit the original album cut of the track below.

OFFICIAL VID: Until The Ribbon Breaks – Pressure

September 10, 2013

The moment I heard UK artist Until The Ribbon Breaks, aka Pete Lawrie Winfield, I was sold. His electronic pop/r&b is dramatic and arresting. I first stumbled upon his song 2025 back in June. I fell in love with it immediately. Then, I heard the tragic, bittersweet, bass heavy Pressure, including the sick Ta-ku remix. I fell even more. Today, Winfield released a music video for Pressure. He also has a new self produced 5 track EP out. I can’t wait to catch him opening for Lorde in San Francisco come end of the month. That night’s going to be memorable, indeed. Watch the new video for Pressure below, and check out the Ta-ku remix again.
