Every once in awhile, a new project comes along that truly floors me and stands out from the pack with their genre crossing music. That’s what happened when I stumbled upon outsideOUTSIDE and their debut single Habits earlier this year. I promptly jumped on sharing the dusky aching tune, which blended emo rock with glitchy shuddering vocal bass. Though the mysterious band followed the track up with a stunning remix/cover of Lil Xan’s Betrayed last month, Comatose is only their second original release. And it’s such a heartrending ballad and another exceptional exhibition of outsideOUTSIDE’s immaculate genre-defying sound. The tender yet raw poignancy on Comatose near leaves us comatose with how hard it tugs on our heart strings. You can find the single on all major streaming platforms, here. Re-visit the music video for debut single Habits below.

It always blows my mind that some artists have the time to tend to both a solo career and projects with other gifted artists. Both SAKIMA and AObeats are busy musicians. SAKIMA just released his vibrant synthpop track Death Is In The Air

a few weeks ago. As for talented producer AObeats, he just signed with TEN Music Group & Kobalt Music the other day. Yet, they’ve both found time to reunite as dynamic post-EDM duo SWIMS to give us Over Me, on which the pair again wed their individual styles to perfection. SAKIMA’s smooth sultry crooning glides over jazzy keys and AObeats’ mesmeric future beats production to create a snazzy simmering, airy flickering pop track. There’s no getting over Over Me, that’s for sure. Over Me is available via major platforms, here.

The Chainsmokers defied expectations with their latest single Sick Boy, going for a more Twenty One Pilots meets Transviolet like alt sound on the beast of a tune rather than their usual buoyant prancing future bass and pop on hits like Roses and Closer. xo sad, a mysterious and enigmatic project who seems to have appeared out of nowhere less than a month ago, has begun to forge a namesake with their post-EDM styled covers. xo sad melds gritty alt styled vocals with lush emotive electronic soundscapes. Their latest cover, a raw gripping, rough brooding trap cover of Sick Boy, is a prime example of that mesmeric sound, dripping with emotion and anguish. You can also stream xo sad’s covers of Post Malone’s I Fall Apart and Lil Peep & Marshmello’s Spotlight on Soundcloud, here. Their take on Sick Boy is a free download, here.

We haven’t really heard much of a new peep from Echo Park musician and producer Crywolf since his Skeletons EP last year, and we’re definitely hungering for some of his heart crushing, breathtaking music. Though we’ll have to continue waiting, we’re more than grateful that LA production prodigy AWAY has brought Quantum Immortality back with a profoundly stirring, darkly atmospheric new remix. The glitchy haunting, pensive brooding remix is a potent mixture of towering progressions and heart stopping drops. Grand and cinematic, AWAY’s remix leaves us wondering… is there a chance AWAY and Crywolf might come together for an official collaboration soon? Their styles meld together so seamlessly on this melancholic future bass and melodic trap remix.

As long time supporters of EDEN and his distinctly soul crushing, genre bending music, we can’t help but be deliriously overjoyed that his debut album Vertigo has arrived on Astralwerks. The singer songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Dublin will be kicking off the North American leg of his Vertigo World Tour come March 1st. Many of its dates area already sold out. Jonathan Ng, the man behind the heart twisting sonic magic of EDEN, has also shared a music video for Vertigo track Float. His haunting and emotive lyricism shine on the earnest opus, a restless churning, melancholic afflicting sea of agitated electronica and glitchy pop that builds in urgency towards an omnipotent apex. Vertigo is available, here.

One of Josh Pan’s latest phenomenal tracks is named Selfish, but really, there’s nothing selfish about it at all. Not only has the New Yorker generously graced us with a riveting spectacular, but he also shared the creative process with an impressive list of production talent, including Judge, Y2K, and Dylan Brady. The dusky brooding alt electronic track, which he’s also tagged as “ghostrock”, is a haunting yet electrifying affair. Moody beats, gossamer vocals, simmering guitars, and atmospheric synths wrap around each other in a dance of aching passion. It’s a gut punch of a song, an exploration of your own inadequacies and inner demons, both bitter and stirring. In Josh Pan’s case, agony leads to ecstasy. Selfish is available at iTunes, here.

You would think that at some point we’d become numb to the potency of EDEN’s heart crushing music after so many years of falling for the producer, singer songwriter, and multi-instrumentalists’ music, but it’s simply impossible to not feel the weight of his exceptional music. The Dublin producer, formerly known as The Eden Project when we first discovered him, is back with another exquisite post-EDM/indietronica track named Crash. We crash and collide with the 21 year old musician’s raw yet exquisite opus, an intimate but windswept embodiment of human emotion and suffering. The video for Crash was directed by EDEN’s frequent collaborators Zhang + Knight (Naughty Boy, Ghostpoet) and filmed in Kiev. We’ve been waiting a very long time for a full length album from this astute artist. Vertigo arrives January 19th. Per-order, here and you’ll get ‘start end’, ‘gold’ and ‘crash’ instantly.

Late last month, Jersey based singer songwriter and producer Jeremy Zucker released his four track EP, Idle, which includes previously featured End and his much lauded collaboration with blackbear, Talk Is Overrated. Let’s take a moment to appreciate song number two, Ghosts, a melter of an alt R&B and soulful pop ballad with crisp hip hop undertones and an expansive electronic atmosphere. At the forefront of the moving song is Jeremy Zucker’s velvety smooth yet gritty emotive voice. His EP Idle has certainly shaped up to be a deeply moving experience, kind of like EDEN and Lido, but more spacious and voluminous. Idle is available from iTunes, here.

There’s nobody as pleasingly gut wrenching and pleasantly soul crushing as EDEN, the incredible artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist we’ve been following along with since his early days as The Eden Project. Every time a new EDEN song surfaces, I know my heart’s in for a sweet reckoning. The astute songcrafter from Dublin gives us an intimately strumming, piercingly electrifying composition named ‘gold’ for his latest song. As if his career hasn’t already been magnificent in the past several years, EDEN is forecasted to have an even greater 2018 as he prepares to release his debut album. You can pre-order EDEN’s first full length, vertigo, here, before it arrives on January 19th. Purchase/stream ‘gold’, here, and join me in melting away for all eternity to his ever expressive, always aching crooning. EDEN will be heading out on a fresh tour after his album drops, with a stop right here in San Francisco at the Regency Ballroom on March 13th. My live EDEN experience at a sold out Popscene was utterly astounding, so if I’m not at SXSW that week, you know where I’ll be.

EDEN’s welcome cameo on ILLENIUM’s Leaving the other day served as a powerful reminder of how much we missed the Irish singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who’s been crushing our hearts and leaving us reeling with his emotive music since his days as THE EDEN PROJECT. So when new song “start//end” surfaced today, we couldn’t be more content. 21 year old talent Jonathan Ng sweeps us straight off our feet again with his emotionally charged, poignantly quivering voice, as well as his cinematic sweeping, panoramic soaring electronica & hip hop. Expertly sewing together strings, beats, and synths, EDEN creates a tapestry of sound to take us on a soul searching journey with his spectacular song. “start//end” is one of his most ornate compositions, with hauntingly discordant tones and fluttering layers of fine elements. Its intricacy can be traced to the collage-like method with which EDEN assembled the song. He fused together fragments he’d collected on tour. The song comes with a video which Ng directed, filmed, and edited himself after shooting across London, Tokyo, Seoul, Los Angeles, New York, Belgium, and around his home in Dublin. When it comes to what some call “post-EDM”, there’s few who can rival EDEN’s talent, except of course, Lido. “start//end” is available, here.
