I’ve been very fond of Minnesota synthpop, trip hop, and alt-R&B band POLIÇA for a very long time. I find their progressive music and lead singer Channy Leaneagh’s smoky voice utterly irresistible. As such, I’ve been delighted by the news that POLIÇA has collaborated with Berlin based orchestral collective s t a r g a z e on a whole new album named Music For The Long Emergency. The combination of POLIÇA’s dark and seductive sound and s t a r g a z e’s lush, verdant strings results in a symphonic post-rock meets alt pop sound that’s original and thoroughly enthralling. The two projects released a music video for their song Agree this week, giving us a cinematic experience to go along with the spectacular song. Music For The Long Emergency arrives on Transgressive Records and Totally Gross National Product this February 16th. Pre-order, here.

My social feeds were abuzz with excitement at the news of a new Lane 8 tour. The San Francisco native also whipped us into an ecstatic frenzy by revealing a new song named No Captain, featuring none other than long time alt R&B and synthpop favorites, Poliça. Channey Leanaugh lends her signature voice to this glassy sprawling, epic swelling electronic masterpiece. No Captain is sublimely enthralling. It engulfs us thoroughly, a swift reminder of Lane 8′s brilliance. Lane 8 will be releasing a new album, Little By Little, on January 19th. You can catch him live at SnowGlobe Music Festival in Lake Tahoe at the end of the year or Holy Ship early next year. Find out more about his massive tour next year, here.

Berlin production mainstay Boys Noize is preparing to drop his fourth full length, Mayday, on May 20th via his own BOYSNOIZE label. He’s also revealed a song I was greatly looking forward to ever since I caught wind of this collaboration. Starchild features vocals by POLIÇA’s Channy Leanaugh,. Hearing her on a new tune is a very welcome extra dose of her smoky vocals after blasting POLIÇA’s new album United Crushers daily since its release. Starchild ripples and sparkles softly, its hypnotic percussion and dynamic atmosphere a bed of textured magnificence for Channy’s voice. Starchild is surprisingly ambient and abstract, a sensational taste from Boys Noize’s new album. Pre-order the producer’s new album Mayday from iTunes.

If you’re as much a fan of Minneapolis alt R&B, trip hop, and synthpop band Poliça as I am, then you’re probably really excited that they’ll be releasing a new album named United Crushers on March 4th, the long awaited follow up to 2013′s spectacular Shulamith. Poliça revealed a new track off of United Crushers today, and Lately is exactly the silken yet woozy music that I can’t help but love from the band. Channy’s breathy vocals lure us into the languorous yet restlessly dissonant atmosphere of Lately, its warm embrace both comforting and full of longing. Pre-order new album United Crushers on iTunes.

I first became a Poliça fan over three years ago, prior to the release of the Minneapolis band’s sophomore album, Shulamith. I was thoroughly mesmerized by Channy Leaneagh’s so easily recognizable smoky voice, and by the band’s signature blend of dark trip hop, indietronica, and R&B. Poliça quickly became one of my faves that year, and I’m eagerly awaiting their next album, United Crushers, out March 4th on Mom + Pop. Today, we get to plunge into an odd Sesame Street like world on Poliça’s new video for United Crushers single, Wedding. The song itself is the exact sort of pulsating, moody, bass grooving Poliça treat I’ve been hungry for. This “wedding” is a dark affair, a hot blooded, tempestuous squall. Pre-order United Crushers on iTunes.

Yet another new album announcement and return I’m monumentally excited about comes from Minnesota’s Poliça. I fell hard for Channy’s striking voice and Poliça’s brand of R&B and synthpop music back in 2013, yet I somehow managed to miss them on tour for their album Shulamith all year long. This is going to be remedied in 2016, when I catch Poliça on tour in March for third album United Crushers, out March 4th via Mom + Pop / Memphis Industries. Lead track Lime Habit has been revealed via a music video, streaming below. On Lime Habit, we’re launched right back into Poliça’s brooding indietronica, in all its richly serrated texture and swirly smokiness.

I can’t say that I’m all that familiar with British electronic legends and progressive house pioneers Leftfield, who have been around since the late ‘80s. But if today’s new track is any indication, it would be a fantastic idea for me to take a night and delve into their past repertoire. Bilocation is a heady, dark offering, plus it features Poliça’s Channy Leaneagh, whose voice never fails to spellbind me. It’s obvious progressive house has changed a lot over the years, as Leftfield’s sound is far more dubby, acidic, and techy, like that of Prodigy or even Aphex Twins. Bilocation is from Leftfield’s new album, Alternative Light Source, out June 8th via BMG. I’m guessing it’s going to be a wicked record.

Today, I learned that Los Angeles electronic producer Kauf drops wicked remixes full of dark, resounding beats and spacious but thick atmosphere that’s dramatically intense and full on captivating. On his latest track, Kauf has remixed Poliça’s sultry electronic R&B jam Chain My Name, and boy does he do a number on it. Channy’s vocals are more haunting than they’ve ever been before, and the song is as satisfyingly meaty and percussion laced as I’d ever hope for. Sophisticated and daring, it’s most certainly one of my favorite remixes of the week, never loosening its tight vice on my ears every time I press play.

Minnesota R&B and electronic act Poliça has always come off as exceedingly bewitching with their edgy, intoxicating, and oh so lush music. Very soon, on June 10, they’ll be releasing a deluxe edition of their excellent 2013 album Shulamith. With it comes some extras, and this one’s a real treat, especially if you’re a fan of oldie but goodie You Don’t Own Me, by Leslie Gore, like I am. Channy’s smoky vocals reach heights I don’t think we’ve heard from her prior. It’s a wonderfully dark and gorgeous cover.
