We were wildly excited about this highly anticipated collaboration after Whethan and Opia teased its arrival days ahead of Aftertaste’s release, and now we finally get to share the track with you, too. Chicago based producer Whethan has certainly been the man of the hour when it comes to fast rising electronic artists, and he’s thrilled us with his live sets in the past. LA based electro-R&B duo Opia has also been a champion of ours for some time now, and we were lucky to catch them headlining Popscene with their scalding guitar riffs and creamy melting vocals again recently. The two come together and fuse their excellent musical talents on Aftertaste, which expertly balances Whethan’s brisk and frisky future trap and Opia’s soulful, buttery, and guitar smoldering magnetism. It’s a smooth yet electrifying swooner, perky and restless but plush and luxuriant. Watch their lyric video for the swanky, sultry single below. Aftertaste is out on Big Beat, and you can download/stream via major outlets, here.

I don’t know about you, but I’m still glued to Louis Futon’s Stranger Things flip despite the fact that I finished my Stranger Things 2 binge on Netflix ages ago. But lately, I’ve also been swooning endlessly to the producer’s new original with alt/electro R&B faves Opia. As expected, Opia delivers satin smooth crooning on Louis Futon’s Restless Sea, a dark and moody future bass and future soul ballad with funky riffing guitar curls, all suspended in sooty smoldering heat. This ‘sea’ is very much tumultuous, turbulent, and unsettled, as hearts oft tend to be. Download the powerful anthem, here.

Silky light and dreamy sheer is Past Life, a heavenly new treat from Canadian producer Ekali, who links up with alt R&B and electro-soul duo Opia on the sublimely soothing, velveteen caressing single. Ekali has crafted a warm, iridescent future soul and plush, extravagant chill trap anthem. We lose ourselves in its flowing drapes and satin swells, while Opia’s buttery vocals caress our molten hearts. I’m not sure I believe in past lives, future lives, and re-incarnation, but I sure hope that Ekali and Opia are still in my life whatever may come. Stream/purchase Past Life, here.

My summer’s pretty much been made since the beginning of June. That’s when I finally caught one of our favorite alt and electro R&B projects live at Live 105′s BFD, something we’d been waiting for since the pair appeared out of nowhere to incite a whole lot of adoration and buzz with debut single Falling. Opia lit up the Subsonic Tent with their steamy guitar riffs and satiny soulful jams, even offering up a spectacular cover of old Britney classic Baby One More Time. Last Friday, Opia released their six track Faded EP, a molten collection of tunes that includes, aside from prior extolled songs like YDU, Faded, and Devil In Disguise, this glistening swooner, Heart Of Gold. Its smooth buttery electronica and plush R&B soul will leave your heart a liquefied pool of gold. Opia’s Faded EP can be streamed in full via Soundcloud, here. Support by purchasing from iTunes, here.

In just over a week, I finally get to see Opia when they take the stage at Live 105′s BFD Festival. Needless to say, I’m giddy with excitement. Opia has been enrapturing us with their imaginative future R&B meets evocative electro soul concoctions for the past year, and I can’t imagine how glorious it’ll be when the Los Angeles based duo serenades us with their smoldering songs live. Their songs are so wickedly delectable that it seems appropriate their newest single is named Devil In Disguise. This sly swerving ballad delivers a seductive punch in its Jai Paul like R&B funk. Opia sears my heart with this charcoal smoldering, peppery rousing jam. Head to their Soundcloud to savor their prior singles once more.

I’ve been going to Live 105′s BFD Festival nearly every year for at least a decade, but my excitement never wanes for the summer event. In fact, I’m crazy excited for this year’s iteration on June 10th, and I’m grateful I’ll finally get to see one of my favorite electro R&B and soul duos, Opia, play the Subsonic Tent that fateful Saturday. It’s no secret I’ve been a big fan of the pair’s silky blazing tunes this past year. As it so happens, Opia’s new single is named Secrets, and it features fellow Los Angeles based singer songwriter Sam Fischer on dashing guest vocals. Secrets is like an intimate suitor who knows all your deepest desires and darkest fears. Secrets feels like home, a warm sultry, opulent rippling future bass meets R&B soul embrace. The sumptuous swooner is gonna be a real treat to hear live. We’ll see if Opia drops Secrets at BFD!

It’s been awhile, but let’s shoot off into space and float into orbit around a beautiful lunar landscape to the tune of ever captivating MOONZz. Even if we fall out of orbit, our descent will be cushioned by the velutinous electronic pop exuding from Navigator. This new single is the LA based vocalist’s first of 2017, which she’s released in pursuit of her comprehensive sound as an artist, writer, and producer. MOONZz co-wrote Navigator with friends and IHM extolled artists Opia. On co-production duty is up and comer Restless Modern. This confluence of talent proceeds to bathe us in a warm glow rooted in romance and optimism. Navigator is about jumping head and heart first into the journey of love. We’re always eager to dive head and heart first into new MOONZz, and she never fails to dazzle and enchant. Navigator can be purchased from iTunes, here. The single can also be streamed off Soundcloud below.

Satin haunting future R&B leaves me drifting in a state of euphoria on no1nexttoyou, a track from a mysterious production project named joneses. The nebulous yet luxuriant song features vocals by Zainab Darong and it feels very much like a smooth rolling rendition of What So Not or Flume, with all their sharper edges rounded out. The glassy fluid affair firmly lands this producer on my radar. The NJ native continues to seduce me through my ears with tunes like
Øpia and mt fuji cherry, both of which you can stream below. no1nexttoyou is a free download, here.

The amount of remixes that arise out after an artist or band releases exceptional tunes is nothing short of a testament to their brilliance. Based on that belief, there’s no doubt that Opia has been one influential and highly regarded new project of 2016. Fellow LA outfit PLS&TY add to the number of incredible Opia remixes already in existence by offering up a dreamy waving future bass and synthcore imbued trap edit of Opia’s YDU. The production duo turn the creamy plush original into a choppy sea of slick synths and resonating bass. This might be the most regal grand, dramatic intoxicating Opia remix yet. And it’s a free download, here.
