The wired and tightly wound strings that welcome us into Oliver Riot’s new song are a fine fit for the single’s name. The Los Angeles based duo comes at us strong yet again with a captivating tune named Neurosis. The song is at once icy cold and scalding hot, creating a sensation that evokes that first moment when you jump into a steamy shower on a frigid day. Prickling tingles spread across the skin and all senses are on edge. Neurosis is a puckering soulful delight, a vibe heavy, minimalist haunting dark beauty from a forthcoming sophomore EP. The song examines those painful moments when we replay our mistakes endlessly in our minds, a consuming obsession I can certainly relate to at times.

Traversing a fine line between folk pop and soulful pop is Oliver Riot, a duo from Los Angeles who describe their own sound as “acid folk”. Oliver Riot recently released a spectacular EP named Hallucinate, off which comes a slinking beauty named Ivory Black. Ivory Black’s slinking vocals bring to mind Glass Animals, but set in a far crisper and blues instilled soundscape with graceful and elegant keys. Their milky songs are ripe for an evening of solitary contemplation and reflection. For another arresting tune off Hallucinate, stream Alcatraz below. Or hit up their Soundcloud to stream Hallucinate in full.
