Triple J Unearthed named Old Sault one of their artists to watch last year, and we can’t agree more. The Australian project, founded and fronted by singer songwriter and guitarist Angie Farr, has been enthralling us for over a year with her exquisite indie rock. We’re more than ecstatic that she’s returned with her first song of the year, and she’s even announced a debut EP.  On Sleeping With Danger, Old Sault gives us her most darkly mysterious and urgently intense performance yet. Driving percussion combines with finespun layers of folksy instrumentals to create a Soak meets Daughter like ambiance, both intimate and atmospheric, vulnerable and grand. Sleeping With Danger is a more than magnificent third taste from Old Sault’s debut EP, Mostly Worried, due out May 12th. Old Sault plans on announcing her debut live shows soon, too. Re-visit prior evocative singles Ghost and Sail Home below.

A few months have passed since Old Sault first caught our ears with her finespun indie rock. The emerging Australian talent returns with Sail Home to tug at our heart strings once again with her brand of atmospheric aching, haunting emotive music. I’m once again thoroughly spellbound by a sound that carries the dusty drawl of Silversun Pickups, the hushed intimacy of early Trevor Powers (Youth Lagoon), the brittle poignancy of Soak, and the cinematic depth of post-rock. Sail Home glides ever delicately, yet it’s also immensely powerful. Old Sault takes us with her on her heartbreaking odyssey, and we ride along on its blusterous ebbs and tides. Old Sault’s debut EP, Mostly Worried, is set for an imminent release. I expect it to be a deeply moving experience.

Old Sault is a new Australian act, one that describes itself as a “bandless band from the Gold Coast” founded and fronted by singer-songwriter and guitarist Angie Farr. From a debut EP in the works entitled Mostly Worried comes Old Sault’s fantastic first single, Ghost. Though an aching, haunting indie rock number that explores the bane of desolate loneliness, Ghost is immensely stirring with its earthen, florid beauty. Angie Farr’s melancholic vocals are coated in a ruddy complexion much full of life. It’s hard to feel alone when we have Old Sault to accompany us through the day. Watch Old Sault’s music video for the marvelous tune below.
