There’s been a more than ample supply of remixes of Zayn’s smash hit Pillowtalk lately, but you’d better make room for this one, a re-imagination of the song by OFWGKTA veteran Tyler, The Creator. It’s a swaggering new hip hop and soul approach on the song much scintillating and seductive. And, it comes with a very entertaining music video too, one much intimate and personal. We get a very down to earth look at Tyler The Creator. It’s adorable.

It would seem the age of OFWGKTA ruling the world may have ended some time ago, their collectively rowdy noise and endless controversies having grown quiet over the months and years. However, the group’s individual artists and side projects are obviously still going strong. I’m happy to see that The Internet is on that list of acts still pumping out impressive creative juices. In fact, Syd Tha Kyd and Matt Martians have teamed up with brilliant Montreal producer Kaytranada on a killer tune named Girl. The syrupy smooth tune is a hypnotic swooner, sitting on a bed of thick, feverish air. Drift away to its flushed, foggy languor.

It’s been almost a year since UK crooner Raleigh Ritchie, aka Jacob Anderson, first swept me off my feet with a stunning, seductive electronic soul pop song named Stay Inside. His popularity is slowly and surely picking up speed this year. This week, Raleigh Ritchie dropped his Black and Blue Point 2 EP, which features a bevy of decadent, luscious remixes by OFWGKTA acquaintance act The Internet. The Internet’s rendition of Stay Inside is a droopy, rich, jazzy remix that Frank Ocean would love.

OFFICIAL VID: Tyler, The Creator – Domo 23

February 16, 2013

A little bit belated on this one, it’s already racked up tons of views, but here’s the new wrestling oriented video for Tyler, the Creator’s Domo 23 off coming sophomore album Wolf. Earl Sweatshirt plays ref while Tyler and Domo Genesis go at it. As with most OFWGKTA work, watch out for some major explicit rap content. Wolf comes out in April.

Kilo Kish is an indie rapper from NYC. Her rap style is on the opposite side of the spectrum from Azealia Banks and Angel Haze’s. I was reminded of Kitty Pryde’s rap style, but even more hush, soft, fashionable, and conversational. Creepwave featuring Flatbush Zombies is a new track she uploaded into the machine this week. The title pretty much describes the track. It’s a haunting, foggy, and deliberately slow six minute piece. About halfway through, it loses some of the slogging molasses slowness and picks up more of a beat, but the haziness clings to it throughout. Kilo Kish also released news today that a collaboration mixtape was on the way, featuring contributions from the likes of Childish Gambino, SBTRKT, the Internet, Earl Sweatshirt, Starslinger, and many others. The mixtape project is called “k+”. I’m looking forward to hearing it.

For more soothing, soulful rap music from Kilo Kush, check out her video for Navy below. I have a feeling we’re going to be hearing more about her. Other hip hop artists sure seem to dig her.

Sticking with the surprise covers with this one. British indie alternative band Cave Painting did an immense cover of Frank Ocean’s Swim Good. Swim Good is still one of my all time favorite Frank Ocean tracks (and videos), so this one really hit home for me. They give us a foggy, dreamy version of the beautiful song. Well done, Cave Painting! For revisiting purposes, the Frank Ocean cut and video below… Watching it always makes me miss Big Sur, California.

Yes, thank you, Stereogum. I listened to this the other day but there was no easily shareable version yet. I’m sure someone already put this up on youtube and elsewhere since then, but hey, Stereogum did a story on it, so here you go. The world was abuzz over the fact that despite the retirement of Outkast, Andre 3000 and Big Boi were reuniting for ONE track. It was totally out of the blue after much repeated and stoic promises that the two would never work together again. Yet, here it is… Frank Ocean’s remix of one of his ChannelOrange tracks… the Pink Matter Remix, featuring both Andre 3000 AND Big Boi. Pigs are flying!

OG track below, as always…
