I used to reside in Oakland, and I’m still very much fond of the Town, so my interested was immediately piqued when I came across a new project named OAKLND. Despite his chosen pseudonym, this multi-instrumentalist hails from Scotland. But his music is indeed inspired by the breezy coastlines of California. Debut single Hold On is a psych funk inflected, sun-dappled synthpop swooner replete with a spacious and dreamy chillwave ambiance that oozes sweet nostalgia. The ballad is a must for fans of LANY and Great Good Fine OK, but it also exudes the retro R&B funk appeal of Blood Orange in its creamy yet snappy lilt. Colin Mckillop, the man behind OAKLND, used to play in a touring band in Scotland. He decided to pursue a solo project on the back of a trip to Los Angeles, an adventure that helped him consolidate the dreamy pop sound oozing from Hold On. The single will get an official release on November 3rd via AWAL.
