We’ve all been there. “I hate going out, I hate coming home, I hate how you’re never picking up your phone, yeah,” sings Olivia O’Brien on her latest single, No Love, and we can’t help but be reminded of the times we’ve felt the same way. Though the Napa chanteuse sings about L.A., this is a universal song that anyone can relate to. The singer songwriter waxes bitter and melancholic on her pop ballad, serving as the voice of our own hearts. No Love, produced by Jahaan Sweet (Kehlani, Amine) is a beautifully forlorn taste from Olivia O’Brien’s highly anticipated debut EP, It’s Not That Deep, due out soon November 17th. On a cold autumn night, we’re we have this moody brooding gem to keep our lonesome hearts company. Re-visit Olivia O’Brien’s prior hit singles on Soundcloud, here.

The delicate and earnest balance between the sensual and the heartbreaking in Lyves’ music always renders me a rather helpless and transfixed mess. The London based singer-songwriter and producer fills those wounded, aching voids within us with gossamer sleek electro R&B and misty haunting pop on No Love. We float in her soupy intoxicating sonic fog, our hearts tenderized by the exquisite anguish seeping through from Lyves’ silky smooth voice. As halycon soothing as it is, No Love also hides much barbed restlessness in its plush velour, both through its dissonant haunting chords and its spectral trip hop skitters. No Love is a breathtaking taste from Lyves’ debut EP, Like Water, which comes out on January 20th.

TLC hits will forever hold a special place in my heart. Those songs soundtracked some very memorable moments back in the 90′s. during some very formative years. Los Angeles production wizard DR FRESCH revisits TLC on his latest release, a track named No Love. This TLC is revved up, a high energy club spectacular that incorporates bouncy house and edgy trap. The stabbing banger is a frenzy of an invigorating dance track and the perfect lead in to weekend festivities. The producer explains this his goal was to take elements of 90′s hip hop and R&B and place them within the context of his “future ghetto” style. He chose to sample TLC’s No Scrubs since it’s such a true representation of 90′s R&B culture. This melding of past and future gives us a very innovative and imaginative take on R&B, one that injects me with rampant energy. DR FRESCH’s No Love is a free download, here.

IYES is really on a brilliant roll with their music lately, revealing one terrific tune after another off the Brighton duo’s forthcoming EP, Part One. The latest stirring song they’ve revealed off the EP is an exquisite, sorrowful acoustic number named No Love. Its sparseness captures the aching emptiness in my heart induced by the beauty of the fragile song. No Love adds to the wide range on IYES’ slowly materializing EP, a stark contrast to the prior uptempo electronic pop reveals. Visit the three tracks they’ve unveiled from the EP so far, here. I’m starting to wonder if IYES is telling a story with the EP. One more song, named Lions, is to come. The Part One EP will be availalbe to stream on Spotify from Thursday August 14th.

OFFICIAL VID: Hooray for Earth – No Love

April 24, 2012

Hooray For Earth has a cool video out for single No Love off 2011 album True Loves. No Love a catchy indie pop track from the NYC rock band, and it sounds perfect for the oncoming summer season. I can totally picture hearing this outdoors during the daytime at a number of fests and on summer mixes. It’s a fast grower. I’m not sure what’s up with the zebra head though…
