Nick Murphy, the electro-soul and trip hop artist whom many first fell in love with as Chet Faker a few years back, has just embarked on an expansive tour under his birth name. He’s playing the Crystal Ballroom in Portland tonight before he hits up Seattle then heads down south to dazzle the Bay with a show at the Fox Theater in Oakland. Aside from songs off his recent EP Missing Link, he’ll be slinging this hot new single, Medication, a dynamic anthem that undulates between bluesy searing vehemence and meditatively minimalist moments. Medication is a thoroughly engrossing listen, and it’s just the “medication” we need after a tough week. To learn more about Nick Murphy’s tour across North America, Europe, and the UK, head to his website, here. Medication is available, here.

It took some time, particularly since I’ve been such a long time fan of this man’s music, but I’ve finally grown accustomed to calling Nick Murphy by his given name rather than his now retired appellation, Chet Faker. The venerated Australian singer songwriter and producer shared a new EP earlier this week and announced a massive world tour for later this year, too. It seems like an eternity from now, but I’ve already purchased presale tickets for his stop in Oakland at the Fox Theater on October 16th. New EP Missing Link features five new tunes, including this stunning KAYTRANADA collaboration, Your Time. The song is all that we love about the man we once knew as Chet Faker… a rich evocative combination of trip hop, soul, and electronica. For another taste of his new EP, stream more momentous driving Forget About Me below. Missing Link can be streamed or purchased from major outlets, here.

I know we’ve had an inordinate amount of remixes when it comes to Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You lately, but this one is completely fresh and unique. In fact, this pair of singer songwriters and producers have cleverly compounded Shape Of You with Chet Faker’s No Diggity. Lu Crative and Sowlmate present us with a flawless cover mashup on which it’s nearly impossible to discern where Ed Sheeran ends and when Chet Faker begins. This island breezy chill house emulsion is as dashing as can be. And it’s a free download, here.

I could die happy now that Bonobo and Nick Murphy (fka Chet Faker) have come together on one spectacular song, a mesmeric spread of downtempo electronica named No Reason. Bonobo’s shadowy flickering, gossamer entangling production is augmented by Nick Murphy’s sandy simmering crooning. We’re treated to seven and a half minutes of bundling bliss on this new taste from Bonobo’s highly anticipated new album, Migration. The guest talent studded affair will be out this Friday, January 13th. Pre-order, here.

Because I’ve been so in love with Chet Faker’s music these past few years, it’s been incredibly hard to remember to call him by his given name of Nick Murphy now that he’s decided to forego the pseudonym. However, the change is indeed slowly sinking in now that the gifted Australian musician has unleashed a second single as Nick Murphy. Stop Me (Stop You) is nothing short of spectacular. There’s simply no stopping this artist as he continues to push the envelope when it comes to trip hop and electro-soul. Stop Me (Stop You) is gloriously gripping. It stretches far and wide into eternity and beyond, an ornate and epic expanse of jaw dropping brilliance.
