Not only is this next one dedicated to a great cause, but its a stellar new offering from Belfast duo New Portals. They’ve released Sober such that all download proceeds via Bandcamp and iTunes would go to Macmillan Cancer Support’s Go Sober For October campaign. The lissome and enchanting pop aria pairs a 4/4 beat with mesmeric guitars and the duo’s trademark lush harmonies. It’s brisk yet piquant, frisky and uplifting. “I like to party when we’re sober,” they croon on the charming song. It’s true. Who needs anything else when you can dance to your heart’s content to this nimble and ebullient gem? Support the song and Go Sober For October by purchasing Sober from iTunes, here, or Bandcamp, here.

New Portals’ glassy, glacial electronic pop on their debut EP Stereo is utterly bewitching. The Belfast duo have also delivered a captivating music video for Stereo track Fill Me Up, in which the pair play the part of a judging panel for a disparate talent show featuring drag queens, infatuated couples, a priest, and more. It’s an altogether fascinating experience, particularly when soundtracked by New Portals’ ethereal sparkling pop. Fill Me Up’s nod to the 80′s and its shimmering appeal is reminiscent of some of my favorite Scandi-pop acts, like Niki & The Dove, Karin Park, and Say Lou Lou. You can stream New Portals’ Stereo EP in full on Soundcloud or Spotify.

Belgian duo New Portals have certainly been a portal to some unique and innovative electronic pop. It’s an edgy glitching, dark rumbling brand of scintillating music they present us with on their latest single, WinterSkin. Icy tinkling keys and The xx like mellow guitar progressions entrance whilst Kate Boy meets AlunaGeorge like spunky vocals bewitch. As we predicted, the buzz is growing on this pair. They just returned from a mini-tour of three shows in New York, where they played intimate gigs across Manhattan and Brooklyn in galleries and rooftop settings. They’ve also garnered huge support throughout the year from Radio 1, particularly from Phil Taggart and Huw Stephens. I have a feeling 2017′s going to be a tremendous year for New Portals.

Groove Boy was one of Belgian alt pop duo New Portals’ very first songs last year. Their new music video for the song is a welcome re-visit of the sleek electronic pop and sultry R&B jam. The song certainly “grooves” alongside its ethereal chimes and feathery vocals. Groove Boy’s music video is a shadowy extension of the bitterly brooding undercurrents of the song. Its delicate magnetism and synthy pop allure would slide right in next to music by Oh Wonder, WET, and Say Lou Lou.

Belfast’s New Portals offers up the same sort of dark, dusky electronic pop and gliding indie pop that this fan of Oh Wonder and BROODS can’t help but love. The duo’s ethereal pop has already won over Radio 1′s Huw Stephens and Phil Taggert, which will come as no surprise once you’ve submerged yourself in the shadowy pop of Skyline. New Portals recently let loose a music video accompaniment for Skyline, which you can stream off YouTube below. Purchase Skyline from iTunes.
