Brand effing new DEPECHE MODE

January 30, 2013

In what’s probably some of the biggest news of the music day, Depeche Mode premiered their first single off upcoming, eagerly anticipated new album Delta Machine. Stream Heaven below. It’s a treat. A very good, moody, yummy treat. There’s been so many veteran returns lately, and, come on, can you honestly say that they’ve all been great? I can’t. It’s tough, coming back on legendary status, getting critiqued harder than normal. But seriously, some of the comebacks lately have been meh in my opinion. Depeche Mode’s Heaven, however, sounds delish. It’s a slow burning, emotional track. I was afraid they’d do something more dancey or upbeat and end up sounding cheesy on their lead comeback single, but nope. They did right. They did well. Delta Machine comes out on March 26 and will be the guys’ THIRTEENTH studio album. Whoooweee.

OK, this is an exclusive right now on KROQ, the embed is not working (obviously). BUT please, do check out the new song, head over now:

New Local Natives from NYC

November 30, 2012

Local Natives’ new single Breakers has been garnering a lot of love. I can’t wait for their sophomore album early next year. The other night, the fellas performed at the Bowery Ballroom. Of course, they debuted several more of their lush chamber pop/psych rock tunes live. Here’s some semi-decent fan footage of the new songs.

And just for heck of it, here’s the official video for lead single Breakers again. Such good stuff…

Hey Sholay

June 8, 2012

Here’s a brand new band for the day… Hey Sholay is a five piece indie rock band from the UK. They were featured on BBC Introducing, and it was well deserved. The lead vocals are amazing! Below is a little of what I was able to dredge up on them. Wishbone is a crescendo of wonderful, uplifting rock.  Burning seems to be a more lighter pop-like fare. The Bears, The Clocks, The Bees is also a catchy tune more on the indie pop side. Dreamboat is just as catchy and very upbeat. Last is My Blood, which is a nice listen too. Not a bad late day find!

Lana Del Rey tracks

May 31, 2012

Whoa, there’s a crapload of stuff going on with Lana Del Rey in the machine today. TONS. There are unreleased tracks recorded during the Born 2 Die sessions that didn’t make it on the album. Then there’s the news that LDR released her first studio album titled Sirens under the name May Jailer a long time ago, and the tracks are available online as well. Whooo… deep breath… here we go… First, stream the decent but not spectacular unreleased tracks, of which Children of the Revolution is probably the best one. After that, stream the 16 Sirens tracks which I’ve compiled into a playlist below. Her soothing May Jailer work is very acoustic, sweet, and simple; it’s incredibly haunting, beautiful stuff, though a few of the songs start to sound too similar after awhile. I think I just fell in love with Lizzy Grant all over again and really enjoy this other side of her. I wonder how many other names and alter-egos she went through in her many years of hard work (haters shush, see?). Big thank you to DanndyGarbage’s youtube channel.

Better video of new The XX live

May 17, 2012

Ahh, here’s a better video from the London show where The XX premiered several new tracks off their upcoming new album. This one has both Romy and Jamie crooning away. It sounds great too, as did the other clip I shared yesterday of another song. It all sounds like signature The XX and what I love them for. I was a little wary of what their new music was going to sound like after all their announcements about it leaning towards a more “party” sound. Whew!
