Around the end of last year, I was listening to Live 105 show Soundcheck on a Sunday night, as I often do, and an enchanting tune I had never heard before reeled me in deeply. That song was City Lights, by a local San Francisco act named NRVS LVRS. I spent the next few months impatiently waiting to share the track with you, and was finally able to with much pleasure at the beginning of the year. Fast forward to today, and NRVS LVRS has released their new album, which includes City Lights. This calls for some congratulations and a re-share of the gem, a unique and unsual blend of minimalist electronic pop and intimate folksy pop. The wispy, airy vocals on the delicate song remind me of The Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan and Phantogram’s Sarah Barthel. I also love the slightly dark hue of the song at certain moments, making it rather mystical. City Lights is but one of many great tunes off NRVS LVRS’ new The Golden West album. Another gem of a track I’ll tack on below is the lushly executed Black Diamonds, which sways and glides with a carefree dreaminess. It’s quite the cozy charmer. Stream NRVS LVRS’ The Golden West in full on Soundcloud, and buy the vinyl from bandcamp. NRVS LVRS will be playing their album release show next Wednesday, September 9th, here in San Francisco, at my beloved Rickshaw Stop!

Matt and Kim teaser

June 22, 2012

Geez, the endless album announcements keep coming. It never ends! Yay! Dance punk duo Matt and Kim just announced today that they’ll be releasing a fourth album titled Lightning this fall. Here’s the short tease they gave us… it’s really short, barely anything… come on, can’t we get a little more? 😉 Never fear, on Monday we’ll be getting their lead single from the album, Let’s Go.

Diamond Rings trailer

June 20, 2012

Funny, I’ve been wondering many times in the past week what’s going on with Diamond Rings lately, since I was very fond of John O’s debut album Special Affections and I haven’t heard about him in awhile. Turns out, he has a new single coming out soon and here’s the spanking new trailer for it below. This could only mean a new album on the horizon. Now that I think back, I guess the timing is about right, since he was touring with Twin Shadow before and Twin Shadow has a new album shortly. Have you noticed that? It’s interesting how a large amount of bands and artists always release new albums at similar times because they’re on the same cycle (give or take). The trailer is very short and enigmatic, but sounds pretty good. Otherwise, I really can’t tell much from it.Other than John O continues to be as artistically out there as he wants, and GOOD for him!  I’m Just Me drops on June 26.

Well, now I’m hungry for a little Diamond Rings, so a brief revisit is in order…

Muse announced a NEW ALBUM!

June 6, 2012

The fellas have released this dramatic trailer for their next album The 2nd Law… Ohhhhhhh boyyyyy. What are they getting at here? What are they GETTING at? I guess there’s going to be a dubstep-like electronic influence on the new stuff. It doesn’t really get wobbly, but ALMOST does. I am SOOO so so so curious! The projected release date is sometime in September.

NEWSFLASH!

January 28, 2012

Crystal Castles is working on a new album to be released sometime THIS SUMMER!!!!!!! In an interview with NME, Ethan Kath stated that they are slated to start working on their third studio album in Croatia this February. He also promised the new album will not be “soft”. Good. Hope they keep the edge that makes them so incredibly captivating and groundbreaking! And I honestly can NOT wait to see them live yet again. There’s something so electric about their live act. And you can’t just place it all on Alice Glass’ eccentric and hypnotizing persona. Ethan Kath in his hoodie controls a large part of the success with his production and throw down of beats live.

Now, I can’t talk about and think about CC without listening to a goodie from their previous album. Time for my Crystal Castles dose, and it’s long overdue. Loooove you, Baptism.

BIG BIG GASP.

http://www.nme.com/news/the-xx/60182 – The xx start work on their second studio album

I’ve been waiting!!!!!!!! Yay!!!! Thought it was going to be longer before Jamie and Romy started working on a new album together again, with Jamie XX being super mega busy and successful with his solo producing and collaborations.

Pasting the article below (thank you very much, NME). Such good news. Awww yea. =) Hope they start leaking previews and new tracks soon. I’ll be on it, don’t worry!

xx

The xx have revealed that they have started work on their second studio album.

The band, who Barclaycard Mercury Prize for their self-titled debut album in 2010, had previously cast doubt on whether they would even record a second album, but have now confirmed that they are working on record number two.

The xx posted news of their second album on a newly set up blog xx-xx.co.uk on which they will also post regular updates on the progress of the album’s creation.

The band wrote: “We have started recording our second album! We have also started this blog where we will post our inspirations and pictures and favourite songs."

Since the band completed promotional duties for their debut LP, percussion maker Jamie Smith has busied himself with production and remixing, including reworking recently deceased rapper Gil-Scott Heron’s final album ‘I’m New Here’ and creating remixes for the likes of Radiohead, Florence And The Machine and Adele.

justice

…this morning… we had Grum, we had SebastiAn, it only gets BETTER. There’s an album preview medley by JUSTICE!!!!!!!!!It’s called the “Audio, Video, Disco” medley with a bunch of the tracks off the upcoming album that oh so many of us are waiting on pins and needles for. Though the tracks aren’t exactly mixed into each other as one true medley, it’s still great to get to hear snippets of all the tracks off the album. Epic. EPIC!
