Jim James of My Morning Jacket recently announced a new solo album named Eternally Even, which he’ll be releasing on November 4th. Newly revealed album track Here In Spirit is a splendid tune indeed. It glides dreamily with sparkling keys, jagged beats, and glistening synths, over which the illustrious musician croons, mellow and easy. Despite its leisurely serenity, Eternally Even carries an important message about the upcoming election here in America. He beckons us to speak out, to voice our opinion, to vote. You can pre-order Jim James’ album, Eternally Even, here.

If you’ve yet to hear the new My Morning Jacket, prepare yourself for something absolutely brilliant. Magic Bullet is the Louisville rock band’s response to all the violence our nation is currently embroiled in. I concur with the positive message they deliver in the song’s lyrics (at a time when too many choose to be negative), and I’m also thoroughly enraptured by Magic Bullet’s psychedelic rock. My Morning Jacket gives us a smoking hot jam that sees the veteran band leaving some of their alt-country roots behind as they venture into far more groovy territory. Its wailing guitar add to the passionate effect of this profoundly rousing call for peace.

LYRIC VID: The New Basement Tapes – When I Get My Hands On You

September 26, 2014

I’m really digging on this mellow The New Basement Tapes tune, plus I love the lyric video for the song, too, which blends live action with animation. The New Basement Tapes is a project created by producer T Bone Burnett, who decided to record unfinished songs from Bob Dylan’s Basement Tapes sessions. Burnett turned to Elvis Costello, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), and Marcus Mumford to achieve his aims. When I Get My Hands On You is one of the charming tunes they chose to work on finishing, and the finalized result is terrific. You should be able to recognize who turned in vocal duties on the track, if you’re a Mumford fan.

There’s seriously a huge long list of fantastic goodies to share with you today, my fellow music lovers, so let’s jump into it with a brand new tune from Spanish Gold which debuted on USA Today. South of Nowhere is our third taste and the title track off the band’s debut album, out soon on May 27. The track continues a brilliant, genre blending sound by the act, fronted by My Morning Jacket’s Patrick Hallahan. It’s a souflul, jangly, bluesy, indie rock and pop listen. I’m looking forward to catching these guys on tour next month at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco. It’s going to be a real treat seeing them in the intimate venue before they start playing the more cavernous locales. Out of the tunes we’ve heard from Spanish Gold, my favorite is still debut song Out On The Street. I can’t resist listening to it again. Join me, below.

My Morning Jacket member Patrick Hallahan debuted his new project Spanish Gold a month ago with crunchy first single Out On The Street. Their debut album South of Nowhere drops on May 27, and Day Drinkin is our second taste off the release, premiering on GQ today. It’s a fitting share to follow up my previous feature of the Dan Auerbach Lana Del Rey remix, since as before, the song’s bluesy garage rock flavors reminds me a bit of The Black Keys, though less raucous and more downtempo. The band also includes members of City and Colour and Grupo Fantasma, and they’ve certainly got a great sound going on. Revisit the superbly catchy Out On The Street below if you missed it last time. It starts out very Arcade Fire-ish, which is always a quick shot to my heart.

Spanish Gold is the new project of My Morning Jacket member Patrick Hallahan. The act’s releasing a debut album titled South Of Nowhere come May 27 and Out On The Street is their crunchy first single. When I first hit the play button this morning, I was invariably reminded of recent Arcade Fire with the groovy opening sequence. Then a more Black Keys like flavor surfaces and the soulful, rocking song takes off. It’s quite an addicting, genre blending tune hinting at great potential within this new project.
