MUTEMATH are well on their way to releasing their fifth studio album Play Dead after having given us one of my favorite 2015 albums, Vitals, as well as an immense remix album named Changes last year. The ever experimenting and unpredictable Big Easy rockers take us on a vociferous ode to chaos and pandemonium with new album taster War. Crashing cymbals and a tightly wound mixture of progressive rock, spacey psychedelia, and bluesy electro rock takes us on a dynamic joyride. Paul Meany’s buttery voice is a gripping contrast to the song’s grittiness. War is a poignant depiction of the struggles happening in today’s America. Though its been a fan favorite during the band’s sets, its release as an official single can’t be timed better. You can find out more about how to pre-order Play Dead ahead of its September 8th release date, here.

Last month, welcome news of a new MUTEMATH album arrived on our doorsteps. We now know that Play Dead will be arriving on September 8th on the band’s own label, Wojtek Records. And we have a sweet new taste from the record to share, too. The New Orleans based band ventures deep into spacey psychedelic territory with their electro-experimental rock on Stroll On. The song even features trippy instrumentation and sounds such as the bouncing of a ping pong ball and other whimsically bobbing, kaleidoscopic torquing, and bass wobbling elements. It’s quite the heady intoxicating listen, and the ping pong ball effects at the end of the song leave me with a strong craving to challenge someone to the game of ping pong, which I happen to love though I’m not great at it. You can pre-order Play Dead, here. MUTEMATH will be embarking on a massive U.S. tour this fall, find out more, here.

MUTEMATH surprised us in 2015 when the New Orleans rock band delved deep into electronica and psych pop on their excellent album Vitals, a record I simply could not retire from rotation for a prolonged period of time. They’ve now announced a follow up to Vitals, Play Dead, which is obviously going to be far from listless and lethargic considering how lead single Hit Parade sounds. They continue their electro-experimental trajectory with the kaleidoscopic spiraling burst of psychedelia, but there’s also a strong effusion of classic rock on the widescreen single. Hit Parade is an astronomic dazzler that will leave you breathless. MUTEMATH promises more information in the coming weeks regarding their new album and full tour. Hit Parade can be downloaded and streamed, here.

In 2015, MUTEMATH regaled us with a brilliant album named Vitals, a record that saw the band from New Orleans go more sprightly electronic and psychedelic pop on us than we expected they would. As a full year approaches since its release, MUTEMATH prepares to unleash a remixed album for Vitals, cleverly named Changes. Despite the fact that this will be a collection of re-imagined tracks, Changes does come with a brand new single, the title track. Changes is a breathtaking beauty. Ethereal chimes, fluid beats, and svelte cooing welcome us into a dreamy introspective world that soon douses us with bold electronica venturing deep into future bass and trap territory. MUTEMATH continues to surprise us with the unexpected on this magnificent song. It’s clear this band is not afraid to push boundaries and break convention. Pre-order new album Changes from various outlets, here, ahead of its September 23rd release date. Watch a live footage suffused lyric video for Changes below.

I’m sincerely fond of Mutemath’s 2015 album Vitals. In particular, album single Monument is a timeless classic for me. It’s hard to entrust someone to remix a song you hold dear to the heart, but when I saw that Sweden’s Kasbo was in charge with the latest interpretation of the mellifluous anthem, I knew we were in good hands. Kasbo turns it down a notch on his dreamy pensive future beats rendition of Monument. This bubbling brook of an enchanting remix hovers in mid air, filled with wistful nostalgia and bringing forth memories long buried. This ambient gliding edit will be on a remixed version of VITALS. Mutemath will be revealing more details about the record in the coming weeks.
