If you didn’t catch this news over the weekend, I can assure you, you’re in for a double Monday treat, courtesy of Los Angeles’ Michl, whom we’ve been enamored with for the past several years. Our experiences catching the artist live have only added to our fervor. Michl, who last surprised us by teaming up with production luminary Mura Masa on Better With You, has unleashed a thoroughly bewitching new song named I’d Do It Again.  The dreamy waltzing, lushly glistering ballad carries the intricacy of Fyfe, with Michl leading  us through his sonic garden with contemplative vocals. Alongside the new song also comes Michl’s first-ever music video, a three-part short film titled ‘datum’ featuring two previously freleased songs (Better With You and Out Of Order). The film was co-directed by Michl with Sean Hollihan, and it peels back yet more layers of Michl’s story as an artist. “The entire film was shot in my hometown of Riverside, CA. In the same home, same streets, same local grocery store,“ said Michl of his debut video. "Most would consider Riverside an uninspiring city, but somehow I always had big aspirations. By subtly placing high fashion within the context of my hometown, we were able to re-create that dreamlike optimism I had growing up.” Watch ‘datum’ below. New song I’d Do It Again can also be streamed via Spotify, here.

Lately, Mura Masa has been surprising us by taking the role of producer behind some of our favorite artists’ new songs. His latest such work sees him crafting an intricate future bass soundscape for long time IHM supported LA artist Michl. Better With You proves to be a divine pairing. Michl’s smooth vocals and expert songwriting melds perfectly with Mura Masa’s sonic wizardry on the immaculate balance between electronica and soulful acoustic pop. The contrast between the song’s gentle, fervent strums and the track’s sharp whizzing, dramatic rolling texture is striking. It’s been a long time coming, but Michl will be releasing a debut album this summer, before he heads out on a new headline tour in the fall.

Last year, Mura Masa released one of the year’s best electronic albums, and a quintessential track off the release is no doubt Lovesick, which Parisian duo SACRE has re-vamped on a brilliant cover. They inundate the original electronic track with plenty of their sparkly glitz and funky flourishes on an absolutely stunning re-work. It’s a frisky yet sleek, opalescent and French house infused rendering that kind of feels like a seamless encounter with Mura Masa, SBTRKT, C2C, and Justice, all at once. Lest you forgot how good SACRE’s originals are, make sure to re-visit them on Soundcloud, here.

Yes, it’s another track involving the great Mura Masa, who’s been busy behind the scenes producing for a bevy of talent these days, including a surprising  array of rising indie projects from across the genres, like Jadu Heart and Issac Gracie. Today, we dance to his ever nimble beats and aerated notes as he gives the HAIM sisters a fabulous electro-pop styled remix. Walking Away goes bubbly spry and spacey burbling on Mura Masa’s re-envisioning, in a way that reminds me of Terror Jr, with a generous slathering of texture.

We’ve been touting Jadu Heart and the UK duo’s genre defying form of spacey psych soul and R&B pop this past year with much verve, so a new song from the pair is much cause for celebration, much less a track that involves celebrated producer Mura Masa, too! Mura Masa seems to be keeping himself extra busy these days producing tracks for a plethora of fine emerging artists. He crafts a luscious and complex soundscape on U Never Call Me, over which Jadu Heart croons ever suavely with their velveteen vocals. The lush grooving R&B soul and chill electronica song is the perfect juncture between both act’s styles of sound. U Never Call Me arrived with an abstract visual whose luminescent ripples and watery obscurity are a fine supplement to U Never Call Me’s turbid and sensual allure. Download/stream the single, here.

The Fox Oakland was THE place to be last Wednesday when Mura Masa played a super sold out show in the midst of his tour. I had friends who wanted to go but couldn’t get tickets, and I had friends who had planned on going from the moment the show was announced. Sadly, I myself had to miss the soiree, but I now get to marvel at Mura Masa’s versatility as we listen to a new song from Londoner Isaac Gracie, who teamed up with the esteemed producer on the track off his The Death Of You & I EP. As you probably know from our features in the past, Isaac Gracie is quite the bluesy soulful crooner, so this collaboration is quite unexpected. One Night is a sweeping anthem with quite the understated yet flawless production turn by Mura Masa. This isn’t the sort of soundscape one would recognize immediately as Mura Masa involved, but it is indeed a lifting experience with subtle electronic elements melded seamlessly into its resolute and earthy guitar strums. A limited edition 10″ vinyl version of Isaac Gracie’s new EP is available, here.

I have a lot of favorite Mura Masa tracks and didn’t think it’d be probable for me to find a remix of his track that I liked, but DRKTMS (presumably pronounced Dark Times) creates a gorgeous atmosphere for ‘Love For That’. It provides a chill ambience that you can vibe to by yourself and others.

LYNY is a mysterious producer from Chicago who happened to grab hold of my attention firmly the other day when I traipsed upon his new track INSECURITY. I was immediately taken in by his trap and bass soundscape, its finespun texture, and its gritty yet dreamy constitution. INSECURITY, which samples J-Kwon classic Tipsy, is expertly interwoven with a pensive late night house ambiance and punctuated with bursts of whomping hip hop energy. There’s a whimsicality to its ambling pace and a fantastical quality to that playfulness. INSECURITY is a free download, here. Curious as to what other treats LYNY might have up his sleeves for this new fan, I dove headfirst into his Soundcloud, here. That’s when I encountered his stunning remix of Mura Masa’s When U Need Me from last year. You too, can stream this brilliant deep house meets future trap edit below. Chill ebullient vibes abound on the magical remix. LYNY is obviously a producer to watch.

Just when we thought we couldn’t be more excited for Mura Masa’s debut album, the acclaimed producer drops two more gems off the record featuring a fresh wave of star power. Alex Crossan’s self titled debut will be arriving on July 14th, and aside from guests like A$AP Rocky, Charli XCX, Desiigner, and more, it also features Damon Albarn on this dreamy ambling, ethereal flittering treat, Blu. And let’s not forget Second 2 None, which can be streamed below. The nimble sparkling, ginger burbling aria features France’s Christine and the Queens on captivating vocals. It’s no secret Mura Masa’s debut full length is shaping up to be one of the top electronic albums of the year, just as everyone expected.

It’s not too often we get new Mura Masa these days, so it’s cause for celebration when the esteemed electronic and hip hop producer releases new music, much less two new tunes. SOLE M8S is a sprawling journey of an electronic opus, a near six and a half minute beauty of a slow building orchestral trap masterpiece. It’s accompanied by WAVE, which can be streamed below. It’s finespun hip hop and choppy trap is deeply hypnotic, especially when joined by such droopy, syrupy vocals. Mura Masa’s highly anticipated debut album arrives soon on July 14th, and I’m sure you’re just as excited as I am. SOUL M8S and WAVE are both available, here.
