London’s Mr Sanka has without a doubt been one of the more fascinating projects to emerge this year. The enigmatic outfit dropped their debut EP Gallon earlier this year, whose title track is an entrancing left field pop meets electronica offering. A remix EP followed on the heels of that release. It’s filled with finely crafted edits of Gallon by the likes of Assassin, Alex Adair, Cassian, Suede Brown, and The Knocks. The latter of the five is a hypnotic interpretation swimming in house opulence and brimming with dark tech vibes. It’s kind of like Mr Sanka gone Years & Years, but inkier and edgier. The Knocks’ remix is yet another display of the NYC duo’s versatility. You can find the full Gallon remix package on iTunes, here.

We were immediately entranced by the zestful radiance emitting from Mr Sanka’s debut single Flight Mode when they surfaced last fall. In the last month, the intriguing project from London dropped their debut EP Gallon on PMR/B3SCI, and the title track is just as fascinating of a left field treat. Named as many as one of the most exciting new bands to watch, Mr Sanka offers up a uniquely spiffy brand of genre defying sound on the tune. Skittering alt pop meets warbling electronica on their mesmeric jam. Gallon is jaunty yet introspective, a whimsically twisting, gusty ambling track off Mr Sanka’s three song EP. Gallon is out now on iTunes. You can also stream its songs off Soundcloud, here

Flight Mode is the suave leisurely side one of Mr Sanka’s debut double A side single, and it immediately captured my attention and adoration with its brisk and peppy radiance. The full on zesty indie dance treat was written by this intriguing new trio about a flight to London. Mixing bass driven Daft Punk-esque classic house with plucky whimsical dance rock a la Phoenix, Mr Sanka wins us over in a much irresistible fashion. You’ll be bopping along and tapping your feet in no time, if not flat out hopping all over the room in a jovial summer mood. Mr Sanka was formed by Dutch singer/visual artist Nick van Hofwegen (Young & Sick) and London based producers Mustafa and James, who found each other by chance whilst working in Los Angeles. You can bet on it that I’ll be looking out for the other side Mr Sanka’s double A side debut, which will be out soon on PMR and Beat Club Records.
