English indie pop duo Slow Club’s new tune Suffering You, Suffering Me is a classic gem off their forthcoming album Complete Surrender, out July 14. It’s such a surprisingly bold and loud track from the duo, exemplifying their new vibrant direction. The track powerfully encapsulates a resplendent, vintage motown pop sound, bringing to mind the likes of the great Diana Ross and her music, which I grew up to, thanks to my mom. It’s hard for me not to enjoy this trumpeting, soulful number.

For a healthy dose of soulful pop, let’s check out this new duo based in Los Angeles named We Are Twin. Their debut single The Way We Touch is a satisfyingly powerful track with great guitars and a lot of pop flair. The vocals are a pleasant blend of Amy Winehouse grittiness and Adele spunkiness. The song is the title track off their debut self titled EP, available to stream on their Soundcloud. It’s well worth a listen, trust me.

Unreleased Jackson 5

August 23, 2012

You’ll have to head over to NPR for this, but it’s well worth it. When I clicked play, I literally said “wow” out loud. I felt like I was listening to something so special and so historic, yet hidden from us for so long. There’s no way to easily define what it’s like to listen to an unreleased Jackson 5 track. The Jackson 5 will have a 32 track album out on August 28 consisting of early motown recordings and a bunch of covers and unreleased songs. If the Shoe Don’t Fit is one of such songs. There’s no question it would’ve been a great hit if it had been released back in the day. In fact, the timeless music can still be a hit today. RIP, King of Pop. You keep giving even from the after life. If music can be humbling, this indeed is.

Covers covers covers! GOOD ones too!

May 10, 2012

There’s a ton of covers floating around the machine today, so I’ll combine ‘em into this one super entry!

Iron and Wine covered George Michael’s One More Try, and it’s breathtaking. It’s been so long since I’ve listened to the original good, old classic. I forgot how much I love this song. Sigh. This is sweeping me off my feet. I melt.

Oberhofer covered Kanye West’s Runaway! This is way too awesome and sounds surprisingly, dreamily good.

And here’s something that sounds super mega oldie classic! Australia’s psych rockers Pond covered Smokey Robinsons’ Tears Of A Clown. It’s like The Flaming Lips went back in time to the 60’s for some Motown!
