Previously featured NYC by way of the Bay artist Michael Persall now goes by the simple moniker of MICKY, but there’s nothing simple about the soulful rock and electrifying pop that he douses our ears with on his latest single, Fire. A dose of swaggering Motown imbues this sooty sweltering, confident swinging tune, a vibrant eruption of chunky searing guitars and slick strutting vocals. Fire is a more than swoon-worthy rock and roll and soulful pop chimera. The rollicking jam, which is out now via Big Top Amsterdam, is available, here.

Though On And On was our very first encounter with Curtis Harding and his music despite his having released a full length in 2014, it was immediately apparent that this is an artist to take note of and keep a close watch on. He’s swooped out of Atlanta with a dashing brand of vintage soul and old school R&B that evokes the likes of Leon Bridges and Michael Kiwanuka, but with the funky Motown strut of some of Danger Mouse’s work. On And On is out now via ANTI- Records. Find out more from his website, here.

I’ve been “cruising” through the day, thanks to the latest chapter of Gallant’s In The Room series, on which he pairs up with other talented musicians to bring us sensational performances. If you’re on our twitter, you likely caught my tweet out about this clip this morning. That’s how excited I was by the new release. Everyone’s favorite golden voiced crooner and R&B soul sensation Andra Day have linked up this amazing one take cover of Smokey Robinson’s legendary hit, Cruisin’. Just let “the music take your mind”. It’s taken my whole being.

I’d imagine remixing a Frank Ocean track takes some guts and bravado. It’s like attempting to set loose in the wild an edit of a book of the Bible, or at least to some Frank Ocean fans, it might feel that way. Philadelphia’s Louis Futon created his own sonic gospel when he set out to remix Frank Ocean’s Solo. The flip he’s given us is pure genius, a soulful, funky affair that pays homage to the Motown vibes of the 70′s yet updates that vintage sound with the electrifying hybrid dance and hip hop feels that we often fall for from the likes of Big Wild, Griz, 20syl, and Pretty Lights. Louis Futon’s re-interpretation of Solo is a free download, here.

London four piece FURS have my heart in the palm of their hand after regaling with their divinely vibrant new single Natives. Peppy pop funk and zippy dance pop twirl me around endlessly in a dizzying divine fashion, leaving me absolutely breathless. Hints of Lucius, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Metric whirl around each other on the punchy confection. My excitement for the quartet’s debut album is much ignited by this innovative mixture of punk, pop, and Motown. Just Kids will be out on May 13th via The House Band Co.

Surrender yourself to the smooth and luxuriant groove of Two Another’s latest, a downtempo swooner oozing endless regret named Shouldn’t Have Done That. The Londoners hold my heart hostage with the feathery R&B pop song. I literally feel myself my legs liquefying and my body melting into the very floor I stand upon. Two Another renders me helpless with their Rhye meets 70′s Motown slinker, a new taste from the duo’s self titled debut EP due out April 15th.

London’s Two Another re-emerges from their shroud of mystique to deliver satin creamy, silken smooth disco funk on their second song, Keeping Me Under. Plucky bass and velvet vocals again evoke a seductive blend of 70′s Motown with hints of feathery Rhye resplendence. You won’t be able to resist strutting around to this heavenly groove. Then you’ll have to finish it off with the most graceful slide across the floor.

Two Another is a mysterious new act from London, who proves to be a smooth operator on debut single Higher. Whispery vocals hover with an ethereal weightlessness within the dusky pop slinker. Higher is a song with some 70′s Motown soul and a little essence of J Dilla alongside its silken Rhye seduction. Higher is a sensual and gossamer downtempo funk debut, one that leaves me ravenous for much more music from Two Another.

I’m on cloud nine right now, since my Warriors just went 2-0 in the playoffs. A good state of mind is only expanded with great music, so let’s listen to a moody and seductive song from LA based crooner Morgan Karr, who teamed up with producer Ryan Marrone on a dark simmering song named Beg. The song, both sultry and woozy, is a play on Temptations classic Ain’t Too Proud To Beg. While the original’s retro soul is still very much front and center, Morgan’s sultry crooning and the song’s shadowy production gives the track a slow burning mystique. Morgan Karr just played a show in LA tonight, and I have a feeling this one had the crowd swooning.

English indie pop duo Slow Club’s new tune Suffering You, Suffering Me is a classic gem off their forthcoming album Complete Surrender, out July 14. It’s such a surprisingly bold and loud track from the duo, exemplifying their new vibrant direction. The track powerfully encapsulates a resplendent, vintage motown pop sound, bringing to mind the likes of the great Diana Ross and her music, which I grew up to, thanks to my mom. It’s hard for me not to enjoy this trumpeting, soulful number.
