I was incredibly happy when I stumbled upon Boston alt pop five piece CliffLight half a year ago. Each and every song I heard from them was incredibly upbeat, buoyant, and hooking. They’ve debuted a brand new tune on Billboard this week. Morning Light is a bright, synthy pop song. Thanks to HitcherMusic for making the track available on SoundCloud. Check out CliffLight’s single Do What You Want To below, if you missed my feature of the glistening stomper last time around.

Canadian singer songwriter Andrew Judah melted me last month with his lush folk pop single Morning Light, a tune you must check out below, if you missed it the first time around. He continues to do so on I Know You Know, another dreamy number with a gorgeous, baroque melody and some very spacey folktronica production. Again, I’m reminded of Fyfe, Son Lux, and Lo-Fang on the dynamic, driving song. It’s an emotional, cinematic tour de force, and blatant proof of this man’s musical prowess and writing skills.

New on my map is Andrew Judah, a singer songwriter from Canada with a wonderful sound that blends folksy pop, orchestral pop, baroque pop, freak folk, and cinematic rock. It’s a sound that I easily gravitate towards, being a fan of recently buzzing and somewhat similar acts like Lo-Fang, Fyfe, and Son Lux. Morning Light is his latest haunting, lush single, and it’s off his forthcoming full length album Monster, slated for release come September. It’s dramatic, theatrical, and quite the mesmerizing, darkly tinted track. Check out Andrew Judah’s impressive cover of classic Ben E. King song Stand By Me below, too.

Anna Calvi on A Take Away Show

March 2, 2012

Oh oh oh oh oh I’m so glad I checked what’s new lately with La Blogotheque and the A Take Away Show series! The latest episode features none other than guitar genius, super intense and talented British singer songwriter Anna Calvi. If you read French (and I don’t), you can learn more about the episode here. Otherwise, settle down for some magnificient music magic and watch Anna Calvi perform Morning Light in what looks like a deserted underground parking garage. Use high quality headphones or speakers and turn the volume up, this is very wistfully quiet and meticulously performed. C’est magnifique!

Anna Calvi on KEXP

September 22, 2011

Just bought my Anna Calvi tix for December. Here she is performing a few songs on KEXP! She is amazing. And oh so intense.

I just looked up an interview with Anna Calvi, because I had the inkling that she might not be the persona she tends to portray while performing (not on purpose). I was right. It’s almost hilarious. She’s all dainty and sweet and her voice is all soft and mouse-like. Not surprising at all. I think a lot of artists utilize music as their avenue of intense expression. It’s like how stage shy Adele actually is. It’s cute, actually. They’re all just human, but insanely musically talented humans. =)
