Gallant has long graced the pages of IHM with his inimitable voice and incomparable talent. The very first time we featured the artist was well over five years ago, and we’ve since watched with joy as the world picked up on his unrivaled ability to mesmerize and enthrall. He pours himself into his music with a fervency and intensity second to none. The LA by way of NYC singer, currently signed to visionary label Mind Of A Genius alongside the likes of ZHU, THEY., and more, has finally re-emerged from a one year hiatus with a new release. Watch the dark seductive video for Gentleman above, and revel in his perfect falsettos and the slinky winding showstopper of an R&B ballad. Gentleman is our first taste of Gallant’s new _OLOGY project, releasing this summer. The song’s opaque soundscape, whose minimalist skitters evoke Arca, is visceral and intense, like SOHN, yet atmospheric and weighty, like Jon Hopkins. You can stream/download Gentleman, here. With the new EP on the horizon and plenty of excitement down the road, 2018′s shaping up to be yet another huge year for Gallant.

Charli XCX’s Boys is undeniably one of this year’s best pop songs, and its video has also driven as much discourse, tributes, and adulation as any other music video in 2017. Though there has been a plethora of fine remixes and covers of the track, we definitely did not expect a new rework at the end of the year from alt-R&B and hip hop trailblazers THEY.! But that’s exactly what the duo have done to close out their sensational year. They released their critically acclaimed debut album Nü Religion: HYENA earlier this year, and now they’ve infused Boys with a copious dose of their R&B influenced slinky seductive allure, capped off with smooth cooing. THEY., who are signed to Mind of a Genius Records along fellow vanguards like ZHU, Gallant, Klangstof, and Kwaye,, will surely continue to break new ground and innovate new music in 2018. Their remix of Boys is available as a free download, here.

If you were to demand a short list from us detailing our favorite emerging bands and artists of the moment and who we believe will really make some waves in 2018, there’s no doubt that we’d include slenderbodies on that list. I’m pretty certain that IHM was one of the first blogs to share their music earlier this year, and we’re absolutely elated to see them picking up the buzz they deserve over the course of the past few months. The Los Angeles based indie band, now signed to Mind Of A Genius records (ZHU, Gallant, Klangstoff, THEY., and more) caught our attention with ‘anemone’. Immediately, their slinky and whimsical sound caught our fancy and reminded us of favorite bands like Alt-J, Foals, Glass Animals, Hundred Waters, and The Antlers. They’ve since released a mind bending remix of ZHU’s Hometown Girl as well as a new single named Lucid, which they now follow up with ‘amnesia’, a breathy chugging, breezy fluttering escapade that sits somewhere between label mate ZHU’s rich guttural house and Glass Animals’ peanut butter vibes. Shrewd shifty, murky prowling  ‘amnesia’ is a new taste from a much anticipated EP entitled Fabulist Extended, arriving January 11th. Keep a close ear on slenderbodies, folks. And make sure you check out their other songs on Soundcloud, here, if you haven’t yet. Just be prepared for some major infatuation.

I happen to love wearing boots in the winter, and fortunately for me, I never seem to get lost in them. But I’m pretty sure that’s not what KWAYE is referring to with his new song, Lost in My Boots. It’s a metaphorical rather than literal elocution, presented with gooey, creamy, and soulful panache. KWAYE, as you might recall from our past features, is one of Mind Of A Genius’ more recent signings. He shares the limelight with an eclectic array of label mates like ZHU, Gallant, THEY., Klangstof, and more while cooing about his past relationships on his new molten aching R&B soul track. Much like the rest of Mind Of A Genius’ roster, KWAYE oozes talent and charm, and he’s already making waves with his music. Jam out to more of his music on Soundcloud, here.

I know we’ve said it plenty times before, but if you missed out on Klangstof’s debut album Close Eyes To Exit, you’ve made a massively egregious mistake. The Dutch/Norwegian band thoroughly impressed and entranced with their genre defying full length last year, which went criminally under the radar, at here in the U.S. Klangstof’s forthcoming EP, Everest, due out November 3rd, is your chance to redeem yourself. We heard the outfit go velveteen electro-soul on the surprisingly groovy title track earlier this month. Now float away in deep introspection to their brilliant new single, Resume, a progressive rock and electronic opus that feels more like Radiohead and Phoria in its dark and profound consistency. Klangstof wrote the song in response to President Trump’s proposed travel ban. The project is currently on an extensive European tour, find out more on their website, here

If you missed out on Klangstof’s debut album Close Eyes To Exit last year, I highly recommend you take the time to listen through the genius release by the Mind Of A Genius signed Dutch/Norwegian band. Though very much acclaimed by critics and tastemakers all around, it certainly went egregiously under the radar, at least here in the states. The band’s meditative fusion of electronica, post-rock, and indie rock is brilliant. It often evokes a mix of Radiohead and Local Natives, alongside a bevy of other widely revered bands. Klangstof now returns with news of a fresh EP named Everest, and they go groovalicious on the velveteen electro-soul title track. Its a hazy glistening, wavy funk inflected beauty, and you can download it for free, here. Support by purchasing, here. Watch its lyric video below. New EP Everest is slated to arrive on November 3rd.

The fact that so many gifted producers have taken upon themselves to remix Klangstof’s music is a testament to the Norwegian band’s brilliance. Close Eyes To Exit was probably one of 2016′s best debut albums. New Orleans’ Shallou is the latest artist to remix Klangstof’s Hostage, and there’s no denying the breathtaking beauty of his celestial edit.

Klangstof’s meditative fusion of indie rock, electronica, and post-rock is taken full advantage of on Shallou’s ambient approach. His nocturnal wonderland ebbs and tides under a gentle current. It twinkles, lopes, and bobs with intrinsic grace and elegance. Hostage, despite its name, has never felt more freeing. A gentle kiss of unsullied beauty and a soft graze of innocence is bestowed upon Hostage by Shallou, whose remix is available to stream and purchase, here.

KWAYE is the latest addition to Mind Of A Genius’ brilliant and diverse roster. He stands tall next to label mates like ZHU, Gallant, THEY., and Klangstof with his exceptional sound. The 22 year old London by way of Zimbabwe newcomer emerged last month with debut single Cool Kids, bowling us over with his silky funk and shiny synthpop. KWAYE brings back those retro vibes and an opulent groove on glitzy sashaying sophomore single Little Ones, which channel bits of Blood Orange and Twin Shadow. The glamorous jam is a free download, here. Support via iTunes, here.

We can always trust in Mind Of A Genius to present us with the latest, greatest new talent in music. The label, which brought us the likes of ZHU, Gallant, THEY., Klangstof, and more, has signed a fresh new artist named KWAYE. 22 year old KWAYE, who’s based out of London but a Zimbabwe native, lifts us up with silky funk and shiny synthpop on 80′s inspired debut single Cool Kids. The airy polished gem is like Toro Y Moi coalesced with Blood Orange, topped off with some extra flair. The video for Cool Kids is a “cool” spiffy treat, too. You can grab the track from iTunes, here

I probably don’t need to share ZHU’s latest masterpiece, considering the fact that it arrived last week while I was at SXSW, and new ZHU is such massive news that it’s highly unlikely you haven’t already fallen for Nightcrawler. Yet, it’s too good not to share. The elusive Grammy nominated producer, whose roots lie right here in San Francisco (and whom we’ve been proud supporters of from day one), provides us with slinky throbbing deep house on his new track. Though Nightcrawler has nothing to do with the creepy Jake Gyllenhaal starring film of the same name from a few years ago, it could very well have been a part of the movie’s official soundtrack. The seedy noire vibe found on ZHU’s ominous new track is a perfect fit to that film’s vision of Los Angeles and the sinfulness that lives within us all, whether latent or not. Original sin, right? Along with Nightcrawler comes enigmatic news about a new ZHU project named THE BLACKLIZT. You can sign up for updates on this mysterious new ZHU chapter, here.
