I wish I could go swimming smack dab in the middle of a day. I bet it would be refreshing, invigorating, and soothing, and it would provide me some much needed exercise. But I confess, I’m also quite happy spending my time listening to this Toronto indie rock outfit named Midday Swim, too. The band just released a music video for their song Hold On Tight, which they describe as “the heart” of their upcoming EP Climbing Out Of Caves. Its “surrealist-fantasy feel” is rooted in director Pedja Milosavlijevic and the band’s mutual admiration of films like The Secret Lkife of Walter Mitty, Pulp Fiction, and The Grand Budapest Hotel, as well as the work of directors like David Lynch, Wes Anderson, Emir Kusturica, and classic Spielberg. In other words, the video is quite the quirky cinematic watch, particularly when accompanied by Midday Swim’s youthful capricious, mellifluous lilting indie rock. Midday Swim’s sophomore EP is due to arrive this summer.
