Hometown fans of local indie heroes Cathedrals are looking forward to the arrival of June 8th with great anticipation, because on that fateful evening, Brodie Jenkins and Johnny Hwin will be making their long awaited return to the stage with their first headlining San Francisco show in quite some time. Ahead of that date and on the heels of last month’s ravishing single Don’t Act Like A Stranger comes a dance pop dazzler named Try To Fight. Though this vivacious carousel ride comes as a surprise, we find ourselves falling in love instantaneously with this deep thumping, vibrant thrumming variant of Cathedrals. Try To Fight’s nimble synth arpeggios and Brodie’s breathy radiant vocals even remind us of Kiesza and her spry hybridization of UK house and R&B pop. The single is available as a free download, here. Find out more about Cathedrals’ SF show at the Mezzanine on June 8th, here.

Today, I came upon an up and coming dubstep producer from my beloved San Francisco Bay named T-Mass. In fact, I came upon him because I saw something on my feed about him attending tonight’s Skrillex Takeover show at Mezzanine and to find him for a drink. That piqued my curiosity, so I had to check out his music. Yours truly happens to be checking that sold out show tonight too, to view the festivities and grin at how insane the crowd’s going to be at the tiny venue, raging out to Sonny Moore’s drops and wobbles. T-Mass released a new track today titled Seeing Now, featuring Sanna Hartfield. His brand of dubstep is more soothing, laid back, and melodic, though he counts Skrilly, Adventure Club, and Pretty Lights as influences. It’s true, I can detect all three within this one song. If I do see him tonight, I’ll have to congratulate him on the intoxicating tune. Problem is, I’m not sure I’ll recognize him. And there’s going to be a sea of raised fists and screaming faces. For a couple more sweet EDM tracks by T-Mass, check out the entrancing remixes below off his SoundCloud.
