As we dive into a brand new tune from Toronto’s NEW CITY, I feel like we’ve gone full circle. It was almost exactly a year ago that the alt/electro-pop outfit made their debut with Coachella, and now we get to share Getting Closer just as many of my music friends are preparing to make their annual pilgrimage to the festival these next few weekends. NEW CITY’s Coachella was an instant success, as expected, as was their following releases. They’ve since signed to Mosley (Timbaland’s new label) and Universal. Balmy electronica and infectious pop hooks abound on new single Getting Closer, which explores the ups and downs that come with chasing dreams and the courage it takes to trust yourself. The song is a declaration of empowerment, a mellifluous feel good anthem to carry us into the summer months. Getting Closer is available from major outlets, here.

LA based DJ and production act Mako is preparing to head back out on tour in early 2018, and the impetus for the tour’s name is latest single Breathe. Though once a duo, Mako is now centered around songcrafter and producer Alex Seaver as a solo act. This unexpected cutback in project members obviously has not had a negative effect on Mako’s music. Breathe is an emotionally charged chill house, vocal bass, and melodic pop piece whose potent sentimentality could very well leave you gasping for air once its dulcet notes, dreamy strums, and melancholic vocals fade away. Breathe is out now via Ultra. You can also stream the single via Spotify, here. Find out more about Mako’s Breathe tour, here.

Get ready for some exquisite and majestic music from a new Irish quintet named Silences. There’s nothing silent about their music at all, with its cinematic beauty and heart rending sentiment. Their single, The Sea, is a stirring alt and melodic pop song, perfect for those that love earlier Coldplay or Kodaline’s moving songs from their first album. It’s no wonder that The Sea has already been supported by BBC Radio 1 and played alongside amazing artists like Hozier, St. Vincent, and Laura Mvula.

Enchanting Norwegian pop artist AURORA is currently working on her debut record, which is music to my eager ears, pun intended. In the meantime, she’s released a stunning music video for her spectacular new song Runaway. The breathtaking song itself is already such a spellbinding, gossamer, yet sweepingly luscious gem. Add in this magical video and what an exquisite and stirring package we have. I tend to easily fall in love with melodic, moving pop music from Scandinavia, but this one really takes the cake. AURORA is undoubtedly a favorite emerging female act. Runaway is available now via Glassnote Records.
