As if we aren’t already insanely excited for Lykke Li’s new album ‘so sad so sexy’, the Swedish artist has gone ahead and dropped off these two new treats to stir us into a wild frenzy of agitated anticipation. Sex Money Feelings Die could very well be our favorite song off the album that we’ve heard so far, even though we’re very much in love with Hard Rain, Deep End, and Utopia. Synthpop meets R&B soul on the tune, co-produced by Jeff Bhasker. It even boasts a sparse and spacious trap beat. It’s obvious Lykke Li is going for a more urban influenced sound on her forthcoming full length. Accompanying that gorgeous tune is a collaboration with Portland hip hop sensation Aminé named ‘two nights’ which you can stream below. Lykke’s new music is like Banks’ dark R&B pop meets the tenderness of Wet. We’re not complaining. ‘so sad, so sexy’ arrives June 8th via RCA. Pre-order, here.

After teasing us with a cryptic video and leaving us near breathless from our growing anticipation for new music, Lykke Li shared two stupendous new tunes last month, including a collaboration with Rostam named ‘hard rain’ and a song named ‘deep end’ produced by some very talented artists. They were our first tastes off new album ‘so sad so sexy’, out June 8th on RCA. Just as we hoped, the beloved Swedish indie/art pop artist has followed the songs up with a brand new treat over the weekend. Watch the heartwarming video for ‘utopia’, directed by Clara Cullen. Actual footage of a young Lykke Li and her mom, as well as clips of her with her son are utilized in the video. Both her intimate video and her sanguine song are incredibly moving, especially with Mother’s Day having just passed. Despite its soft glow, there’s a dark melancholy to be found in ‘utopia’, especially towards the end… It’s a truly familiar timbre for fans of Lykke Li’s music. Pre-order new album ‘so sad so sexy’, here.

One of the first things I did this morning after I got up was listen to new Lykke Li. Yes, you read that right. New. Lykke. Li. Pretty huge deal, huh? The beloved Swedish indie pop luminary teased us recently with a cryptic clip on her socials, and now she’s announced a guest talent studded new album named ‘so sad so sexy’, out June 8th on RCA Records. As if our hearts weren’t pumping hard with excitement just from this news, Lykke has also dropped two brand new songs from the album. ‘hard rain’, which you can stream above, was even produced by illustrious musician (and ex-Vampire Weekend member) Rostam. It’s a sparse rhythmic captivator, with very Rostam-like drifting synths and soft beats. Lykke Li also shared a second song named ‘deep end’, produced by Jeff Bhasker, Malay, and T-Minus, which sees her shifting her sound towards more of an R&B inflected pop tone. New album ‘so sad so sexy’ will also feature Aminé and more. You can pre-order, here.

Lykke Li surprised us today with a fresh new tune. Though it’s not an original, we’re grateful anytime new Lykke arises. It’s been awhile since she’s released any solo music after dropping some fine tunes as a part of supergroup LIV these past few years. The Swedish indie pop and dream pop darling has recorded a lovely cover of Jim Croce’s 1973 song Time In A Bottle, giving us a taste of 70s psychedelia. A hint of Lucius is melded into Lykke’s usual willowy bewitchment. Download/stream the cover, here. Lykke Li will be performing at a slew of festivals this spring and summer. Dates and events are listed, here. Hopefully, this means some new original music from the indie queen.

Liv, the Swedish supergroup that involves prolific artists like Lykke Li, Andrew Wyatt, Pontus Winberg, Björn Yttling, and Jeff Bhasker, seem to enjoy coming together for a new release once in a blue moon. It’s always a grand event when Lykke Li and members of Miike Snow as well as Peter Bjorn and John drop a new collaboration, so I was over the moon when ‘Hurts to liv’ surfaced. Aside from its clever wordplay, ‘Hurts to liv’ is quite the twangy melancholic charmer. She states of the song: “There’s nothing more life awakening than the beginning and end of life, love and art. This song is a tribute to my mother and Andrew’s father, who passed away”. “Hurts to liv’ is out on INGRID. Stream/purchase, here.

Lykke Li covering the Righteous Brothers’ Unchained Melody is as close to music heaven as it gets. Though the beloved Swedish singer songwriter’s cover isn’t new and has been thriving on the internet for quite a few years, it’s just been released as a proper single (on iTunes, here). And it’s so beautiful that we need to take a moment and listen to her breathtaking rendition of the timeless classic, now. Unchained Melody is easily one of the most romantic songs of all time. Lykke Li brings out its inherent sadness even more with her tenderly sorrowful cover. As usual, there’s no resisting falling anew for that remarkably expressive voice.

It doesn’t get more beautifully haunting than this song, Birds, an a cappella piece from Swedish singer songwriter Kiki that also features indie darling Lykke Li. This is no sugary bright Glee a capella. No, this is a dark billowing, melancholic wilting dusting of pure music magic. You just might hold your breath through the song as it waxes bittersweet and lovelorn. Though Lykke Li hasn’t dropped any new music, I’m more than satisfied for the moment with this and her recent tracks with supergroup LIV. I’d also very much like to hear more about this Kiki, who’s a member of Lykke Li’s touring band.

Last month, a new supergroup surfaced comprising of Lykke Li, Andrew Wyatt, Pontus Winnberg, Björn Yttling, and Jeff Bhasker, or in other words., a conglomerate of talent involving the likes of Lykke Li, Miike Snow, and Peter Bjorn and John. Liv gave us a rather enchanting debut named Wings Of Love, which they’ve now followed up with Dream Awake. As its name suggests, this gauzy opaque mixture of folk, psychedelia, and lo-fi dream pop takes us to a place in between worlds. We hang in mid air, lost in the beauty of this desolate yet tender song. Dream Awake is out now on Swedish label INGRID.

I must have missed the memo when news of a new superband named Liv recently surfaced, but I’m one of the cool kids now that I’ve encountered the fresh video that just surfaced for their first single Wings Of Love. This collective is comprised of Lykke Li, Andrew Wyatt, Pontus Winnberg, Björn Yttling and Jeff Bhasker. That’s right, this is a Lykke Li, Miike Snow, and Peter Bjorn and John conglomerate! Wings Of Love’s video is also Lykke Li’s directorial debut, a rather free spirited and Bohemian clip to go with the song’s folksy inebriating psych rock. Lykke Li describes the video as an ode to Swedish summer. I find it all very “Summer Of Love”, too. I’m transported back to the 60′s by these illustrious musicians, and it’s a blissful voyage through time.
