We’re so in love with Oakland’s Still Woozy and his funky warbling psych funk and hazy curling bedroom electronica that we rushed out to see his opening set at Popscene late last year when he opened for Knox Fortune. We can’t help but feel incredibly proud that the intoxicating new talent hails from here in the Bay, and we’re immensely excited for his sure to be upwards trajectory in the indie scene. Still Woozy confirms the merits of our devotion with new song Lucy, which features ODIE on vocals, who’s a rising R&B soul artist himself. Lucy is like Phoenix gone slenderbodies wonky and slithery, drenched in the dreamy, jazzy funk of Tom Misch. Re-visit Still Woozy’s prior singles on Soundcloud, here.

Scottish singer songwriter Kate Buchan just released her second album as Best Girl Athlete. The self titled release is out now via Fitlike Records. The latest single off the record is a stark, striking gem named Lucy, inspired by the film of the same name starring Scarlett Johansson and directed by Luc Besson. With it, the compelling musician continues to blur the lines between folksy alt pop and orchestral indie rock, all the while bewitching us with her brittle and willowy yet sonorous ringing voice. Lucy feels honest and raw, weathered and earnest. The single arrives with a B-side named Frayed, which you can stream below. Mournful strings and gorgeous piano guide us through the poignant and sorrowful dirge. Both songs are available from iTunes, here.

I was fortunate to stumble upon this gorgeous gem right before the year ended. Prepare yourself, because this one’s quite the breathtaking heart render. Lucy is a darkly elegant piano pop meets electronic trip hop ballad, delivered most hauntingly by Australia’s Ravines, formerly known as OPHELIA. It was no surprise to see among her list of influences both Purity Ring and Nero, alongside other acts including Katy B, Telepopmusik, and Little Dragon. Lucy keeps me riveted through and through, a magnificently rousing melodic beauty with deeply impassioned vocals.

One of my favorite songs of the year, and one of the catchiest, is undoubtedly Los Angeles artist Olivver’s (aka Olivver The Kid’s) Lucy (Hurt People Hurt People). While the original is a synthy treat, Olivver The Kid has unleashed an immense acoustic rendition of Lucy. It’s hooking warmth and honeyed lushness is absolutely swooning. The original version of Lucy is on Olivver The Kid’s debut EP, Freak, out last month.

I’m still kind of stuck on Olivver’s song Lucy (Hurt People Hurt People), because it’s that fantastic and that infectious, but let’s take a moment to let the Los Angeles act swoon us over with the luscious, glistening Freak. Freak is the title track from Olivver’s coming debut EP, and what a deliciously dreamy synthpop treat it is. It carries of plenty pensive 80’s vibes, making me picture a classic 80’s scene, with a lovesick protagonist standing pensively on a pier, the wind billowing through his hair, and seagulls gliding overhead. Alright, back to the real world… Olivver’s Freak EP will release October 28. Alright, let’s listen to Lucy again.

The last we heard from New York hip hop artist Skizzy Mars, he gave us an amazing remake of Olivver’s Lucy (Hurt People Hurt People). He’s obviously very adept at taking songs I love and crafting new tunes out of them, because his latest track, Come Over, is a superb tune that utilizes and is inspired by Shura’s Touch (and I love that song, so much). Revisit Skizzy Mars’ Lucy below. This guy’s really on point lately and for the foreseeable future.

I’m already super fond of Los Angeles act Olivver’s infectious and gritty electropop song Lucy (Hurt People Hurt People), but now, there’s this whole new version of the fantastic tune. This remix by New York hip hop artist Skizzy Mars morphs the tune into an equally infectious electronic hip hop jam that’s absolutely irresistible. His version is named, succinctly, Lucy. I’m not sure which version I gravitate to more, but I know that this one works some magical wonder. In some ways, it reminds me of K.Flay’s music. And I dig K.Flay’s music.
