Earlier in the year, London trio Little Cub released their highly anticipated debut album Still Life to much acclaim. Now they’re back with a fresh video for album stand out Breathing Space, the very song that introduced us to the band over a year ago. As it’s been so long since we last shared it, and since Breathing Space is the proper new single from Still Life, lets all be mesmerized and hypnotized by its crisp bouncing synths, satin smooth vocals, and nimble beats all over again. I find myself falling all over again for Little Cub’s moody electro pop, constructed with sharp precision and interwoven with emotive lyricism. Breathing Space’s video, directed by Lily Rose Thomas, was shot on film in the band’s house. Still Life can be streamed, here.

When Friday arrives, so shall Little Cub’s long awaited debut album Still Life. The South London trio shares a new treat ahead of that special day by unveiling an outstanding song with a seemingly absurdist title. Death Of A Football Manager is a steady driving, tightly woven mixture of dark electro pop and oblique art rock, a bit like Bloc Party or Everything Everything meets Wild Beasts with a touch of Foals.

Vocalist Dominic Gore explains of the riveting tune and its captivating lyrics: “I wanted to write about the tragedy surrounding the death of former Wales manager Gary Speed. I was a big fan of his when I was a kid and his suicide was a massive shock to a lot of people. Not least because it seems so incongruous in the escapism and Sturm and Drang of being a sporting fan for something to happen that is genuine tragic. I have always been encapsulated by the narratives that surround Football often more than watching the games themselves and particularly now it is impossible to have almost 24-hour access to these threads via social media, blogs, and news outlets it feels more like a soap opera than ever. I wanted to write a song about Football that wasn’t a chant, that was about its meaning to people who are unable to express emotions in any other way.”

Well gee, I don’t even watch football, which we call ‘soccer’ here in this strange nation across the Atlantic, yet I find myself absolutely drawn to the story behind this riveting new Little Cub song. Pre-order Little Cub’s album Still Life on deluxe LP and CD, here, or digitally, here.

We revel in joy as South London’s Little Cub prepare to release their debut album, Still Life, on Friday 28th via Domino. We fell in love with the band’s satin smooth, nimble ambling music from the get go when they dropped their debut single Breathing Space well over a year ago. We fall all over for Little Cub again as they reveal their album’s opening track and first official single, Too Much Love, via a music video directed by Lily-Rose Thomas. Despite its rather glum introspection, Too Much Love is an animated and rousing piece that melds diaphanous indie rock with synth thrumming indie electronica. Little Cub’s album Still Life was self produced and self mixed, and it’ll be available digitally, on CD, and on limited deluxe 12″ gold vinyl, which sounds beautiful. Pre-order on LP and CD, here. Breathing Space is an intoxicating indie electronic debut from a new quartet from England named Little Cub. It mesmerizes and hypnotizes with its crisp bouncing synths, satin smooth vocals, and nimble beats. I normally picture little “cubs” as adorable, clumsy little creatures, but it’s obvious this Little Cub is the polar opposite with their glowing charisma and handsome synthpop, which affords plenty of breathing space within its rhythmically alluring cadence.
