As I waited with excitement for Madeon on the Pixel Empire tour, Andrew Luce caught my attention. His name looked familiar. Turns out he lives in SF so I’ve probably seen his name on lineups before but I knew I had to watch him again after seeing him then. Andrew Luce newest rework reminds me that I still need to see him. He brings a different type of sexy to Lil Wayne’s line “I hate to see her go but I love to watch her leave” from the song ‘Bedrock’.

PRXZM is a production duo from right here in San Francisco, and they continue to impress and delight me with their latest, a cover of DJ Khaled, Drake, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne classic I’m On One. They give the song a delicate touch on their effortlessly wavey future R&B and chill trap rendition, which they’ve named i’m on 1. The effervescent twinkler is free download, here

It’s not often that I share a Nicki Minaj track on IHM, but this remix of her song Only (featuring Drake, Lil Wayne, and Chris Brown) by Atlanta based producer HeRobust is far too fresh and dope to pass over. HeRobust blends deep house and electro into the original’s hip hop on the sinister tinged track. That EDM/hip hop style is just slaying it for me these days.

Dan Deacon’s ultimate mashup mixtape featuring GANGRIMES STYLE!

December 4, 2012

Honestly, it only makes logical sense. Grimes is so HUGELY influenced by K-pop. Who else is there to mashup with Gangnam Style? It’s only the beginning of a crazy 37 minute mashup mixtape by producer and composer Dan Deacon that covers almost 50 artists and an endless amount of this year’s hottest artists and songs. He calls it Wish Book Volume 1. And it’s one noisy, wacky, DIZZYING mix! Wow, who knew Nicki Minaj and tUnE-yArDs can go together??? Geez, this is cool!

From the soundcloud description:

“Hope you enjoy. Friday is no better a day to listen to a 30 minute Diplo set. Stream the segment, recorded live on Shade45 radio yesterday morning. No setlist yet, but it includes clips by Sleigh Bells, TNGHT, Danny Brown, Missy Elliot and tons more. Y’all ready to party to some TRAP? BRING IT!

SVIIB cover of Lil Wayne!

July 25, 2012

Uh-huh, two types of sounds and genres so far removed from each other it’s like.. whaaaa? But yes, School of Seven Bells covered Lil Wayne’s How To Love! It’s true! And it’s a heckuva dreamy, indie pop take. The song is completely different. No disrespect to Lil Wayne, but I’m not the biggest fan, or a fan at all. But the original track (also tacked on below) is one of his tunes that I do like to a degree. Maybe it’s the auto-tune. I find Lil Wayne’s vocals to be rather grating at times, though I know for some fans, that’s exactly why they like him. So, I actually find this cover to be an awesome alternate take. Oh how I love how artists are doing all sorts of interesting covers lately. Every song can be done in so many different ways in a myriad of styles and give off totally different vibes.

OFFICIAL VID: Drake feat Lil Wayne & Tyga – The Motto

December 22, 2011

An official video came out for Drake’s song The Motto which features Lil Wayne and Tyga. The coolest part of the video is that it pays homage to the San Francisco Bay. Check out the scenery in this… you’ll approve and be much entertained if you’re a local, like me. Can’t say I’m super fond of this song and its lyrics though, but to each their own.

Betty Wright, The Roots, and Lil Wayne

November 11, 2011

betty wright the movie

Loving this grooving soul tune from 70’s legend Betty Wright. The song, Grapes on a Vine, is on Betty Wright’s upcoming album Betty Wright: The Movie, which is co-produced and co-written by ?uestlove. The track is absolutely brilliant and filled with heart. I’m not usually a Lil Wayne fan, but his contribution here is priceless in building the resulting funky R&B and soul track. The guitar is pretty dang wicked too. What a song! It’s not everyday I find myself listening to and loving new material from an old soul legend, but I may have to check out the rest of the upcoming album. Impressive, indeed!
