We love unexpected sonic delights, which is probably why we got so jittery with excitement when we caught an NBA All-Star television advertisement over the weekend featuring Jessie Reyez’s Great One. As discerning visitors to IHM, you probably know how much we love the Toronto phenom’s music, and how glad we are to be watching her star rise these days. Well, Jessie just surprised us with another appearance, this time as a guest on a song from Scottish singer songwriter Lewis Capaldi, himself an artist we’ve been championing often as of late. The two unite on Rush, a poignant song which they co-wrote and perform on together. Lewis says the song is about heartbreak and the weird headspace you occup after the end of a relationship, where “you feel like absolute shit and, if you’re being honest with yourself, you hope the other person feels just as bad.” Both artists have some amazing pipes, so their vocal turns on the alt ballad is superb. Rush follows on Lewis Cpaldi’s October 2017 debut EP, Bloom. Both these two talents have a very bright year ahead of them, and as a team, they deliver sweeping magnificence on Rush. The single is available from iTunes, here.

BBC Sound of 2018 announced their nominees for their long list less than a day ago, and I can’t be happier with many of their picks. Scottish singer songwriter Lewis Capaldi has been selected to the hallowed roster, and we wholeheartedly agree with the choice. His remarkable voice is exceptionally moving, as is the raw authenticity and sheer power of his soulful alt music. As such, it makes perfect sense that a remix by Toronto producer and musician Tep No would be very fruitful, too. After all, Tep No’s creations are always deeply affecting. He tugs at our heart strings once again with a surprisingly propulsive remix of Lewis Capaldi’s Fade. It’s as if he’s plucking gently at them during the edit’s more chill melodic moments, then stretching them to breaking point with electrifying swells and his synth shimmering melodic bass ridges. Fade does exactly the opposite of its namesake. It leaves a timeless imprint on us even as we turn around and expose ourselves to its breathtaking crescendos and heartfelt furrows once again.

We’ve been quickly learning these past four months how truly amazing Lewis Capaldi’s impassioned music and extraordinary voice can be. The rising Scottish singer songwriter released his debut EP Bloom last Friday. With previously shared songs like Lost On You and Bruises comes this final single, Mercy, a mellifluous soaring yet tenderly intimate alt ballad on which Capaldi’s raw aching vocals render us quite the swooning mess. Debut EP Bloom and its moving singles are available from iTunes, here.

Lewis Capaldi crushes our hearts with his despairing vocals and the beauty of his sparse new piano ballad Lost On You, a song which the rising singer songwriter explains is about feeling like you can’t make someone happy no matter how much you try. Lost On You follows on the immense success of his still spectacularly moving debut, Bruises, and it again places his raw emotive voice on full display, slung over aching keys with much heartbreaking power. Re-visit debut single Bruises below.

When it comes to deep sunset house, we can always count on the talented producers who reside in Germany. Adel & Gesocks takes us to great heights of euphoria with their take on Lewis Capaldi’s earthy soulful Bruises. The only bruises we might get from this summery remix are the ones leftover from dancing too hard to the balmy lifting jam. Head over to Adel & Gesocks’ Soundcloud for more rapturous feels.
