San Francisco Bonobo fans (and there are so many of us here) are stoked they get to catch the esteemed and celebrated British producer throw down a DJ set this Saturday at The Midway. I’m guessing it’s more than likely that Simon Green will drop on his transcendental new collaboration with fellow Brit, George FitzGerald. When he does, the crowd is going to collectively melt to Outgrown’s beautifully spiraling, halcyon spinning ambient electronica, so gently saturated with soft garage beats. Outgrown is an emotionally stirring, delicately embroidered new taste from George FitzGerald’s highly anticipated full length, All That Must Be, out on March 9th. Pre-order the album, here.

Los Angeles siren Naomi Wild has quickly become a force in the R&B pop scene, particularly after having lent her vocals to Odesza’s sensational hit single Higher Ground off their behemoth album A Moment Apart. Over the summer, she made a compelling solo debut on a thorny rumbling, fierce bristling number named Lessons, on which she reminded us of Rihanna and Beyoncé with her rhythmic jabbing, edgy confident approach. Today, we revisit Lessons via a wicked remix of the track by fellow Los Angeles artist and producer, Tarro, who’s brings plenty of his usual heavy shuddering, dark brooding future trap and bass on his rendition of the song. It’s an approach that complements the tone of the original and it gives Naomi Wild an even more fiery fierce vibe with its rumbling bass and vigorous chops. Tarro’s remix of Lessons is available from iTunes, here. Re-visit Naomi Wild’s original, here.

If the name Naomi Wild sounds very familiar, it’s probably because of her cameo on Odesza’s latest prismatic and effervescent electronic aria, Higher Ground. She’s also lent her voice to a bevy of other electronic tracks, though she went under a different artist name back then. The Los Angeles artist to watch makes her solo debut as Naomi Wild on a fierce bristling, thorny rumbling R&B pop and hip hop song named Lessons. If you’re fond of the more darkly menacing, rhythmic jabbing tracks put forth by the likes of Rihanna and

Beyoncé, you’re going to love this hypnotic and visceral thriller. Naomi Wild explains of Lessons: “A few of my exes have tried to make me feel like I’m crazy- and that used to really poke at my self esteem until I realized that I am absolutely insane, and I wouldn’t be the creative mess that I am, nor would I ever learn to love myself properly if I didn’t accept that and own it. And if someone is truly down to ride for me they’ll love that about me.” Lessons is out on iTunes, here.

After enrapturing us with their first EP this past summer, Brighton duo IYES have officially embarked on doing exactly the same with their second EP. The first reveal from their Part 2 EP is a a spectacularly captivating and uniquely artistic gem named Lessons. Its synthpop smoothness and R&B warmth is instilled with enchanting baroque pop and haunting minimalist pop. Lessons is darkly moody, except when its opulently jazzy moments lift us with insouciant, agile vigor. I’m reminded of some of my favorite songs from indie act Breakfast, with a little less of an off kilter edge. The sensational first track from IYES’ Part 2 EP has me ever curious and eager to hear the rest of the record.

Here’s another promising new producer to add to our list of ones to watch. XO is British producer Sunil Heera. His new tune What’s Luv features sultry vocals by Emma Corbett-Usher, and it’s one grooving tune with atmospheric, well crafted, upbeat electronic R&B production. There’s a bit of a Tensnake or Duke Dumont deep disco house vibe to the tune, but far more sensual and heavy hitting. It’s a treat for those that love acts like Jessie Ware, Katy B, and maybe a bit of Sampha, too. For another dance floor ready house tune by XO, stream Old Skool below, which certainly lives up to its name and has a very Disclosure like vibe. I also love his smooth, lustrous deep house remix of SOHN’s Lessons, a song I happen to dig a ton. Are you dancing yet?

OFFICIAL VID: SOHN – Lessons

October 26, 2013

Rising Vienna producer SOHN is one of those artists that I first discovered due to his remixes and production work on other artists’ songs. In fact, I really started paying more attention to him after he produced several of Los Angeles artist Banks’ amazing songs. So, last spring, I checked the guy out, and I was majorly impressed with his songs. His single Bloodflows seriously gave me some persistent goosebumps with its haunting electronic R&B and spacious production. Now, SOHN has released a music video for his equally incredible song Lessons, which is far grittier and more ominous. It feels considerably similar to some of the Banks songs he worked on, like Waiting Game (which I loooooove). Lessons is a helluva song. SOHN is a name we’ll all be hearing far more of. Revisit Bloodflows below the video for Lessons.
