The last we heard from DIIV, they had announced they would be releasing a new album. The name of the album is Is the Is Are, and we now have a release date for the full length! Is the Is Are (is that even grammatically possible?) will be out February 5th via Captured Tracks. Over the weekend, the NYC based dream pop and shoegaze outfit revealed new song Under The Sun, and it’s glorious. Its brilliant sheen is glimmering bright, lighting up the sky as it floats about in a rather urgent, post punk-ish manner. Could this be my favorite DIIV song? The deliriously ecstatic affair lead frontman Zachary Cole Smith to post a note explaining that his life isn’t all about “drugs and addiction, rehab/relapse, and sickness”. He also “met and fell in love with someone”. Could that someone happen to be named Sky Ferreira? Don’t answer that, it’s a rhetorical question. This reminds me of when I’m pretty sure I saw him at Sky’s show in San Francisco at Popscene a few years ago, but I’ll save that story for some other day.

EFG, which stands for Electric Flower Group, is a trio from Los Angeles that recently signed to Bodan Kuma. Their latest single on the label is a beautiful indie rock gem named Suzanne, for which they’ve revealed a transfixing music video today. Though Suzanne glides along with a smooth organic dreaminess, it’s also a rough around the edges brooder. Hints of psychedelic fuzz pair with post punk new waviness on the darkly moody tune. EFG has a new EP in the works, and a full length slated for 2016.

Boasting five members from all across the west coast, ranging from Seattle to San Diego, is a band named Doombird. They consist of current and former members of both Tycho and Album Leaf, as well as Quitter and Mister Metaphor. Being a huge fan of Tycho and Album Leaf, I had a feeling I was going to love these guys’ sound even before I hit the play button. The band just released a new song on L2 Records / Sony named Overflowing which brims with swirling synthpop psychedelia. It’s a tune both hypnotic and intoxicating with plenty of darkwavey tendencies and a Krautrock meets ambient electronica pensive lushness. Overflowing is available today via all major online retailers.

Legendary disco producer Giorgio Moroder has been revealing treats off his forthcoming highly anticipated album, and I can’t help but look forward to each and every unveiling, not only because the tracks feature some amazing guests, but also because they’ve been versatile thrillers. While his Sia collaboration is still one of my favorites, new reveal Diamonds, which features spunky Brit pop sensation Charli XCX, is also a fun and catchy gem. Giorgio pairs a Kraftwerk like dance background with sugary pop melody and Charli XCX’s signaturely sensual and fiesty vocals. Giorgio Moroder’s star studded album, Déjà Vu, will be out June 16th.

Deadmau5’s Maths gets a killer, edgy, techy remix from Canadian duo Botnek, who even adds extra robotic, Kraftwerk-ish vocals to the explosive, hard rendition. The raging remix will be featured on Ultra Music’s double disc retrospective celebrating Deadmau5, titled 5 years of mau5. Joel’s debut album Random Album Title came out five years ago. Time flies.

Los Angeles electronic trio Fartbarf started their outfit as something not so serious, hence the name, which, as gross as it sounds, is quite a memorable one indeed. I encountered their video for their single Homeless In Heathrow earlier today, and I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish, both by the song’s vocoder utilizing robotic funky electronic sound and the video’s B horror slasher story. If you tend to love horror films (and sometimes find the campy ones a bit flabbergasting), this video’s the perfect watch for you. It was for me! It’s a classic babysitter and murderer on the loose story, with a crazy twist. The krautrock meets Daft Punk tune itself is a super fun and vibrant techno treat, too, off Fartbarf’s Dirty Power album.

When I heard this driving, sinister flavored, techno and industrial channeling electronic tune by Long Island band Mr. Twin Sister (once known as just Twin Sister), I knew I had to feature it. There’s a trip hop and dance punk flavor to Out Of The Dark that’s deeply hypnotic, in such a way that it evokes Portishead and Soulwax. The acidic dance track seems made for sweaty late night dance offs in dingy, ill lit warehouses. Check out the video for the track below, too!

OFFICIAL VID: Röyksopp & Robyn – Sayit

May 20, 2014

Hooray! Today, we get to hear another track off Robyn and Röyksopp’s upcoming mini album together, Do It Again, out soon on May 26! The team released a video for album track Say It. The eerie clip is a collaboration with H&M Life. Say It is a hard hitting, frenzied, mega Kraftwerk-ish electronic track filled with sinister, trippy, dizzying darkness.
