New UK project KOYO has been described by Mojo/Q Magazine as a “missing link between My Bloody Valentine and ‘70′s era Pink Floyd.” There’s also a generous dose of Radiohead’s prog rock to be found on the quintet’s debut single, Tetrachromat, a prismatic swirling, gazey mesmeric first introduction to the band. The atmospheric and ornate song even features some brassy flourishes in its final bars, making it a dynamically entrancing, fascinatingly spellbinding listen. KOYO will be releasing a debut album later this year, and judging from its lead single, I’ll venture to predict it to be one of the more sophisticated offerings of the year. A “full version” of Tetrochromat (Parts 1 & 2) is expected to arrive March 31st. What exactly that means evades me, but color me intrigued.
