Johnny Jewel is always busy busy busy with his endless projects. But in possibly the biggest surprise of the day yet, Chromatics dropped EIGHT, count them, EIGHT new tracks today! All tracks were recorded from the Kill for Love sessions between 2009 and 2011 but never made it on the final album. All eight tracks are streaming and free to download for our listening pleasure. The spanking new compilation of unreleased material is titled Running From The Sun. Get ready for some dreamy, hazy, italo disco and dark, atmospheric synthpop! Jewel is such an incredible composer. Here’s what he said himself of the release:

Jet lagged & buzzing from Friday’s show in Paris, I couldn’t sleep…so I stayed up all night with Oko talking about color based dreams while blending these tracks together. Since the album came out, a lot of people on the road have been telling us they are curious to hear some of the unreleased music from the Kill For Love sessions…Recorded November 2009 through December 2011, these songs were all mixed between 4 & 6 a.m. After hours of tracking at the studio in Montreal, we’d clear the channels on the mixer, open a bottle of wine, & feel around in the dark…working our way through the atmospheric elements & peeling back layers of rhythm…throwing the songs into the abstract pile & playing them while driving home in the snow. In Amsterdam right now trying to upload it from the hotel. Fingers crossed…

Tracklist:

Dreaming In Color (00:23-03:08)
Red Car (03.09-07:27)
Kill For Love (07:27-11:30)
Last Wish (11:31-15:01)
Running From The Sun (15:02-19:13)
Disintegration (19:14-22:31)
These Streets Will Never Look The Same (22:32-30:53)
Blue Moon (30:54-34:38)

OFFICIAL VID: Chromatics – These Streets Will Never Look The Same

May 29, 2012

Every song I’ve heard off Chromatics’ recent album Kill For Love has been stunning. Many of them have had visually mesmerizing eye candy accompaniment, and now These Streets Will Never Be The Same has one too. The electric synthpop song is full of dreamy distorted vocals and a great italo disco beat. Johnny Jewel does an extraordinary job producing these songs. Listen to the end and you get a little ethereal tribute to the late Donna Summer who MUST have been a huge influence on Chromatics (as well as most other artists). RIP.

OFFICIAL VID: Chromatics – Candy

March 5, 2012

Portland italo disco band Chromatics have another new video for us for new single Candy, the fourth off upcoming album Kill For Love. The dreamy, seductive track has a similar hazy vintage video to their past few videos, and it’s made, once again, by Italian director Alberto Rossini. The track is hypnotizing and the upcoming album is shaping up to be a promising synthpop listen.

Out of the four singles previewed, Lady is still my favorite so far, with Into The Black a close second and Kill For Love a close third. Here they are again.
